I just had a birthday the other day and have been thinking about treating myself to a new hammer. :D (That is if I don't get sidetracked by a new knife or gun first.) So anyone have a cool hammer? Don't forget pictures and links if you've got them. Hofi? Goo? That one that is carved to look like an elf?

It might not be all that special but I love my 1500gram French Style Peddinghaus... what a coincidence that I just dressed it today, too.

I've had one of Glen Stollmeyer's japanese style hammers
since February, and find that I use it more than any other.

Treat yourself to a Japaneese style hammer/dogs head hammer. They are really great for refining bevels.

I like my Brent Baily hammer , I was fortuate enoght to win one of his give aways from his website.

I just posted about those..... isn't there a member who makes em? Any sources I should check out?

Sorry for the highjack, Allen.

Hey :)

just so you know.. if you do decide to go with one of my hammers there's going to be a little bit of a waiting period.. I'm getting new stock in and have a few hammers back ordered already, but they are pretty nice tools. Handle way differently from my other hammers.

Kenon do you make any other style hammers?

Get in touch with Sam Salvati. He's making some really nice Japanese style hammers. He just helped me make one at Ashokan...now I just I need to finish it, HT it, and handle it.... :D

I have a custom rounding hammer, a 1.5 lb farriers cross peen, 1.5 lb home made cutlers hammer, 3.5 lb cutlers hammer, a Ed Caffrey angle peen, on of Tai's monster cross peen and a couple of home made Goo style in the 2.5lb range. I also have a bunch of others I don't use much. The hammers I have been using the most are the culters hammers (Japanes style) hammers. I use the others from time to time but gravitate to these more often. Each one has to find the right balance, that is why I have so many. It has taken me a few years to find what I like. If possible try out a few and see what feels right to you.

I got this Cutler's hammer from Bruce Wilcock in Shetland, however, I heard he's retired now.

This is probably my favorite hammer. I picked it up on eBay.

This is a Saw Maker's hammer, also from eBay.

For general forging, I like the Peddinghaus Swedish Blacksmith Hammer's. I got mine from Kayne & Son, or Centaur Forge (I forget which).

Oh, I forgot to mention. I use a Hofi and Love it. That said, I'll be trying a Japanese style hammer soon so we'll see what wins...

Right now I am leaning towards a hofi style as my main hammer is a cross peen with the handle shaped somewhat hofi style. Plus I just love the looks of it. I am also thinking of getting a cutlers style hammer.
