I have a hickory walking stick that I modified to accept attachments. You guys might find this useful.

At the butt end of the stick I rabbited out a small channel to accept a Recip saw blade that I ground the shaft to a rectangle to fit snug in the rabbit.

Grind the blade first so you can use it as the rabbit template.

I drilled 2 holes in the blade. Marked the shaft inside the rabbit and drilled the matching holes in the stick.

On the side opposite the rabbit I drilled countersinks in the holes and epoxyed 2 Stainless hex nuts in the holes. THe blade fits perfect in the rabbit and I attach it to the stick with 2 large head Stainlees pan head screws.

Easy to put on and take off as long as you are carrying a multitool with a phillips bit.

I carry the blade betweed the kydex liner and outer sheath of my Becker brute.

I also sharpened the top edge of the saw blade. It makes a good make shift spear and an excellent saw.

Gaff hook or fishing harpoon come to mind... Maybe a beer bottle opener:D. When I saw it, I was thinking that the attachment point makes it pretty versatile.

Good idea. Theres lots of different blades to choose from. Ive been thinking about a walking stick made of osage orange. This would be a neat modification.

That is awesome! You my friend are a genius!

One suggestion though, is that next time, maybe try glueing the bolt to the stick so you are screwing on the nuts, that way if you don't have any tools, it would be easier to finger tighten. Maybe it would be better, maybe not, just a thought. Hey, I'm a poet and didn't know it lol.

P.S. I'm assuming that is the top end of the stick?

Lee Valley makes a tapered brass tip about two inches long on which you thread either a rubber tip or a pointed steel tip. It is pretty cool attachment, not only a custom look but a useful sharp point to ward off a beast if necessary.

Stingray. It is the top end. I was thinking id I can find a knurled rnd screw to replace the phillips that wounld then make it tooless. Not sure where to find one. any ideas anyone?

nice idea, i will have to try that some time on one of my walking sticks. certainly adds to the versatility with very little added bulk.

Awesome Idea!!

Saw, harpoon, gaff hook, camera stand, shooting rest, slingshot, marshmallow cooker, shovel ... you could add anything to that.

Guys Thanks for the nice comments. It was really easy to do. Just a chisel and a drill is all you need, well that and about an hour.

Didn't you split the wooden walking stick when tigthening the screws? I guess that if you use the saw like that... you will get way too much leverage on the saw due to the lenght of the walking stick... I fear something might just break!
Other than that is a neat idea...

Mikel The screws have a oversized head so there is enough surface area under the head for support. Also the rabbit is a tight fit and provides alot of the necessary support so overtightening the screws is unneccesary.

You are correct it is not a good idea to hold the stick at full length to saw with. If you hold it relativley close to the blade it works really well. You won't be felling trees with it but it does a really good job on limbs and such.
