My new house has Corian counter tops and I was wondering what is good to keep them in top condition? I bought Weiman brand Granite and Corian cleaner and polish. Before I use it I want to make sure it is good stuff or if there is anything better to be had? Many thanks!!!

i used to make corian tops years ago-a little soap and water works fine-

just dont cut on the top because its corian, get a cutting board-used to use scotch brite pads to polish them up real nice

How durrable is Corian? My builder stated is is very durrable except not to use it as a cutting board like you can with Granite. He said it will stand up to impacts better then granite and not chip if something hard hits it. Thanks!

tough is best way to describe it-
tell your guy you want the sink drop as a cutting board-its a standard thing around here

Cool!
How well does it stand up tp heat? Can I put a hot pan on it right off the oven? Thanks!

DuPont has this to say about Corian and its care. There are some more tidbits floating around on that site somewhere IIRC, including how to remove scratches and such.

Please do not use Corian (or God forbid, granite) as a cutting board. Your knives deserve better than that. Wood and even HDPE are far kinder on edges and cost less to boot.

Ours has chipped. I call shennanigans on that one.

I hate how porous corian is - it seems to suck the stain right out of everything liquid that touches it. i tend to sit there after done in the kitchen everytime and scrub the countertop. corian will burn! don't put anything hot on it. my countertops are cream colored and i set a warm pan - not hot just warm on it and it turned it brown. DOH!

Porous???
Corian is advertised to be compleetly non-porous. Mine is super smooth and compaired to granite much smoother.

Mine is white and sucks the stains in too. We bought the house with it. I'm saving for granite now.

The staining surprises me. It should not be doing that at a reasonable level of polish. If the stain didn't clean up easily I'd probably just sand it off. You paid the money for a solid surface counter, right? This is its greatest advantage. Get yer money's worth. ;)

As for the chipping thing, it doesn't seem particularly fragile to me but regardless of DuPont's advertising and the fancy name, it's plastic in the end. Most plastics can chip. This type (acrylic polymer) certainly can.

My folks have all granite in their kitchen and it's absolutely gorgeous. It was also hideously expensive and requires many of the same precautions that Corian does. They freak if water sits on it for too long, never mind other fluids.
