Cpm cruwear rusting upon touch

Hi,
I have been learning from this forum for years and have finally started to post.
I have recently bought a Bark river woodland special in Cruwear from Dlt trading. Now I live in India where the weather is humid and hot and after my initial experience during my early knife addiction days learnt to stay away from carbon steels like 1095 and stuck to stainless and premium stainless steels.
I have had good experience with D2, sliepner so thought should give cpm cruwear a shot.
The exposed tang in the handle of my woodland special patinas or rusts within 10 minutes of holding the knife. Exactly in the shape of my fingers.
The blade has stayed spotless although I have not used it extencively yet. I did a corrosion test by placing few drops of water on it for a couple of hours and the blade stayed spotless.
Could I have acidic hands?
Will attach images, please advise if this is rust or patina. I carry the knife in my pocket so any oil on the handle rubs off in no time.

Cruwear will rust. Taking steps like oiling the blade and exposed tang will help mitigate it from rusting. I use a Marine Tuf Cloth on rust prone knives.

Hi Daniel, thanks for your fast reply.
I have ordered a bottle of aegis edc i.
Any idea if that works?
Also figuring out how to post images here.
Please have a look and tell me if this is considered patina or rust.

I don’t see rust, but your photos a a little blurry. If you have the beginning of rust, you can remove it with rubbing compound, 0000 steel wool, Flitz, Mother’s Mag Polish, etc

I kind of see patina, the grayish hue on the tang.

I have never used Aegis, but I have read that people seem to like the stuff.

Many people have caustic perspiration. I can destroy watches with base metal in no time at all!

I use flitz, done it thrice already in 5 days.
After 15 minutes of polishing, I touched it and it grayed up almost immediately.
Since its the handle, mineral oil and wd 40 dont stay on very long after polishing.
I like to fondle my knives. Stroping is like a meditation for me after a hard days work.

Patina, that is normal, overtime it will turn a matte grey. Just keep dry and let it patina.

Clean off any red/orange rust if that devolps.

Cruwear is not stainless steel.

If that bothers ya just get a stainless steel, just underestand that even Stainless is not stain proof except a few exotic steels.

The reason why folks deal with rust prone tool steels over stainless is the edge performance when it comes to edge taking and durability may be superior in some cases to the stainless options folks have in the same models from these large companies.

Thanks deadboxhero, I like patina especially on copper and brass. Not used to patina on steel. The only blade I have which has a patina is a 3V blade which turned shades of blue. I thought the same would happen to Cruwear if at all since it is so similar to 3V.
I dont have an issue with the aesthetics of what happened to my cruwear blade, just worried weather it is rust since I don't have much experience in this.

I can see the discoloring on the tang. Sweat and skin oils can do that faster than water. Especially if you ate tacos the night before :D A theory I also have is could it be color from the handle? Since the knife is new. Whats the handle material?

I am not too familiar with Cruwear, but many of my knives are carbon steel. I would just let that patina develop, making sure it does not actually turn to rust. My experience with carbon steel leads me to believe that the patina may actually protect the steel from corrosion in the long haul. My only concern might be what is happening under the scales if they are not sealed well against moisture and sweat. Perhaps wiping the handle down with a wax (beeswax?). It would not stay there long, but should build up in tiny gaps where moisture might get in. Just a thought.
