Under the "standards" section, Bohler's data sheet lists S690 as being approximately equivalent to AISI (American Iron and Steel Institute) M4, although like knarfeng said the composition isn't a perfect match either to that or to CPM-M4. But given that the compositions are very similar and that both CPM-M4 and S690 are powder steels (albeit produced using different companies' powder metallurgy technologies), I'd expect their performance to be similar to the point that they'd be indistinguishable in performance assuming comparable heat treat, blade geometry, etc.
