I remember asking this question last year but didn't get an answer but was reminded by a post on tacticalforums.

I heard that the handle was influenced by Carraci but was interested in the details concerning Bob Taylor's influence. Did Emerson run into Bob Taylor after he made the Hobbit warrior where Emerson talked about making a folding version of the warrior. An all black folder that would excel in reverse grip. Anyone have details on this.

Thanks,

Jason

I have Emerson's catalog somewhere in this desk! I just know it...

Anyway, I can't find it, so I cannot quote it directly.

I believe it tracks closely with a fixed blade Emerson offers, and I cannot remember the name, or number designation of it, but it looks like a REKAT Hobbit with intense Emerson styling, if you can imagine that. I believe it says under the description, "Inspired by a friend."

Dubbed the "Banana" knife, the CQC8' s design was influenced by both the Bob Taylor/ AMK Warrior and the Bill Moran ST23. Don' t know where Chris Caracci came in.

The Carraci influence was of my own notation on a tacticalforums post. The grip on the Banana's and newer Emersons if very similar to the design of Chris Carraci on the AFCK. Chris has gotten overlooked on his influences in the design of that knife and it is my opinion that this handle design is one of the best out there. In reference to the large fixed blade discussed-It is now called the Warrior. I have one of the originals that was called the Rogue Warrior and was built for Richard Marcinko. Apparantly there was a falling out over use of the name. This blade does differ in design from the Banana. I have original versions of both of these blades. They are some of the finest "anti-personnel" blades I have ever handled. They have both had influences from the Naval Specwar community as well as Ernie's own magic.

In connection with Chris Carraci, Ernie once made a prototype that looked like an exagerated CQC9 that he said had been designed in collaboration with Chris. It was elongated with a very sharp, claw-like blade, and he had intended to bring it out once modified. This was before the advent of EKC, so he may have simply gotten too busy to follow up on that project.

There were rumors kicking about once upon a time that the CQC8 may make it into a "production" piece- any truth to that?
Great design. I want one.

Rugger, last I heard, the 8 was going to be in production sometime late 99. As backlogged as Emerson is, I doubt if it makes it anytime soon. I too, would love to see it. This is the one knife I would be willing to pay the high after market price to get.

Dirk,
Thanx for the info- I was going to ask Ernie at the November NYC show, but he had a crowd standing around his table & I decided to wait & then forgot to go back & ask. (doh!) If he's at the NYC show in March, you can bet I'll ask him this time!

The 8 may look like a utility knife, but it is pure fighter, that look has helped me through a few airports.
