Thinking about getting on of these. Don't know why, it just looks cool and like it might make a good hiking staff with extra goodies. I figure I could always leave some of the stuff out (like blow gun darts) and put in a fire kit or something. Just wondered if any of you guys own one and what you thought of them. They're kinda expensive but it looks like something the predator would carry LOL. Any idea on what kind of warranty Pat Crawford offers on his products?

I use mine all the time except when maybe it is going to rain. It is a well put together piece of equipment.

P.S. The blow darts actually work really well

Thread is worthless w/o pics :D

"Thirty five years of making the unusual has led us to develop this survival system. From backpacking the Rockies, to walking city streets, to driving the interstates of America, the Survival Staff can be your constant companion to give you that extra edge.

Each one is completely handmade in our shop from the finest materials. The staff parts are made from hardened aluminum and anodized black. The blade is made from 440C stainless steel with a triangle grind for strength and a keen cutting edge. On hand for immediate delivery, an order placed now will receive fast attention and, as always, our long standing guarantee of satisfaction or your money back.

The Survival Staff is a survival tool for the wilderness, city streets, or your car. The package is made up of nine basic parts that can be changed around to make a hiking staff, 57" overall, walking stick, 38" long, or a 24" baton. All parts screw together so that the Survival Staff can be changed around to be a blow gun, a knife, a lance, or if needed the blade can be left out. The hardened point makes an effective weapon or the entire unit can be used for striking. The optional steel head adds more weight for this use.

Custom hand ground 440c blade.

Long tube body (Blow Gun) (walking stick).

Short tube body (baton or swagger stick).

Head (aluminum standard, steel optional).

Bottom tip with steel point, (rubber tip included).

Threaded tube connector

Soft rubber handle

Mushroom cap (for walking stick) with a built in wrist thong hole.

6 Blow Gun Darts"

Really? Could they really kill a small animal? Seems like it would just run off with your dart.

I though about getting the fish spear and storing it instead of the darts. And maybe a fire steel and some tender if there was room.

I used mine a lot when I lived in NYC. The bottom part also works well a a walking stick, especially with their t-handle. If you ever considered getting a walking stick for smacking bad guys, this is the one.

The top and bottom are connected with a big double-headed screw and the entire length of the shafts otherwise is available for storage.

I've had mine for over 10 years and I love it and use it all the time.. The dart gun DOES work.. I used to pick dates on a clandar and shoot them at a pretty good distance. The darts would stick in the wood behind it very nicely and no doubt would kill a small animal.. I have plans on sticking a 3/8" mish metal rod in the coupler..;)

They are very well made, and I like it very much..

You think it you wacked someone or something with it full assembled it would bend or break. Using it as a staff for hitting stuff is the last thing on my list but I was just curious as to it's strength. Mainly I plan to use it as a hiking staff that can double as a spear or frog gig in the woods.

It just smacks me of 'Mall ninja' - but if it is good quality and addresses your needs - who am I to judge?

I know I hate that. But it's a good idea. I bought a take down saw this week that breaks down into a tube. It would be great if someone made a walking staff of this quality that could be a spear/knife/machete and a take down saw. That would be a great wilderness tool. But if I had this and my take down saw, ahhhh then we have a plan.

Thank you for the info. Hey, you got any idea on what kinda waranty they have?

BTW I love your knives. I got an old gun magazine that had some of you work in it. I still look at them and slobber to this day.

I've looked at them for a long time and discussed them with Crawford at shows. There seems to be some concern about their legality in CA when the spearhead is concealed inside the tube. We have a fairly broad prohibition on weapons that might be considered disguised. You may want to check your local laws if you plan to carry it with the speartip inside.

I live in the Southeast US. Things are pretty laid back here. But I will look into the laws. Thanks for the suggestion.

I can't afford one right now but, it will go one my list of future purchases.:D

I'm in the same boat. Gonna have to sell something before I can buy one of these. Maybe in a month or so I'll have the extra scratch.

Hey thanks I appreciate that..

I've never had to send mine back for any waranty work but Pat and Wes have been in business for a LONG time, and I've never heard anything but positive things about them..

Anything your likely to do to it would be easily fixable, and if you broke it somehow it would probably be doing something unwise;)

Unfortunately, the survival cane contains 2 items illegal in CA.
1.The spear makes it a "cane sword", it may also be considered a "dirk" weapon as well
2. blow guns are illegal to possess in CA

Never used this product, but I used to hunt squirrels and rabbits with my blow gun when I was a kid. Never had a problem with anything running off with a dart, but I did pin a squirrel to a tree and then have to climb for it a time or two

I met Wes Crawford at the NYC Custom show..... he and his father, Pat are both top notch makers and I don't doubt the Survival Staff reflects their quality. That said, carrying a staff is not my thing these days, so I can't comment on its performance.
