Anyone know of an absolutely bomb-proof scissors? I've been looking at the Klein Electrician's Scissors ever since I met a guy who used a pair for absolutely everything and they were some of the toughest little things I ever did see. Anyone know of anything else that falls in that category? I mean well-made hard-use scissors--not something to beat up and throw out...like...survival scissors as it were. Thanks in advance.

Murray Carter has been importing a line from Japan of late. You might look at this website.

Not quite what I was looking for, but thanks for the suggestion!

I have scissors like you show; one made by Klein and an older pair by Hen and Rooster. They are good heavy duty cutters but the tiny little ring handles make them hard to use for any prolonged work. Because of this, mine don't see much use. I find handles like those on pruning shears to be more comfortable. Much depends on what you want to use them for.

Three suggestions you may want to check out. Felco CP cutters; Harbor Freight has some really nice heavy duty stainless steel scissors with comfortable plastic red handles (a long bladed and a short bladed version, both personal favorites); the Miltex catalog to has a really wide range of scissors, from tiny iris scissors to heavy duty dissecting and emergency/bandage shears (SSR surgical supplies has the catalog online).

Hmm...still not really finding what I'm looking for. Maybe no one makes such a thing! I'm looking for something that wouldn't look out of place in a Zero Tolerance catalog. :p Really overbuilt, designed to be multi-purpose, and not so large as to make carrying them out of the question. The Klein example, while not ideal, is the closest I've ever seen to such a beast.

Edit to add: Looks like some forged high-leverage shears may be just what I'm looking for. Now I just need to find the right pair. :D

It's hard to beat a good pair of EMT shears. I thought about grinding off the safety portion on a pair. Some are constructed better than others. Even in the electricians, like the Klein's you're going want to get some that have good serrations for bite. If find the electricians hard to use also, due to the small handle. We have pair of Pampered Chef kitchen shears that I think would qualify too, extra extra HD, but I think they have discontinued them.

Yeah, EMT shears get lots of grubby work done around here, and they're usually pretty inexpensive.

I got these scissors from Harbor Freight a few months ago. They're pretty decent, especially for the price, and compact.

Wiss also makes some good heavy duty scissors. I used to have a pair of take apart Wiss shears that were great until I lost them somewhere. That's the thing about scissors around here... they tend to wander off...

Some of the Wiss pieces are vaguely along the lines of what I'm looking for. A lot of suggestions have been made, but they've mostly been for inexpensive scissors or ones geared for stuff other that what I'm looking at. I want a pair of scissors that can cut resistant materials without harm or outrageous exertion, yet whilst still having a reasonable blade length and knife-like blades--no crazy weird tin snip-looking things. EMT shears are completely out of the question because of the angled grip (I want in-line) and the blunt points. Polymer or overmolded handles are out also. I want STURDY.

Like I said, I'll probably end up with some high-leverage shears or shop shears. Certain carpet shears look nice too. At least I know what category to look at now!

Honestly not too bad looking, but I'm steering clear of polymer overmold handles. Thanks for the suggestion though--if it weren't for that and the lack of an adjustable tension pivot I'd be sold! Yes I know I'm picky. :p

Actually, it is adjustable, at least mine are with a nut. What the photo shows is the other side with the takedown piece. You open the scissors wide and they come apart for cleaning and the blade is serrated.

Country comm has two models of the medic shears
pretty tough ones
have one in my Sportmobile that gets regular back woods use
another in the kitchen that wife uses to cut up bones....

As previously mentioned I'm not looking at medic shears. Thanks for the suggestion though. :)

Well, I ended up ordering a pair of Heritage (Klein's parent company) 9" stainless high leverage shears.

I'll post a review when I get them! For some reason scissors get measured by overall length, not length of cut, so these 9" shears actually have a 3" cutting edge. In order to hold me over I picked up a pair of Klein electrician's scissors at Home Depot. :p

I think I'm going to end up with a big pair of bent carpet shears at some point here, too. Gotta' have a huge set! I feel a little silly, but I think I've found a new area of sharp stuff to collect. :D

Ok--just got these things in the mail today. No pictures yet (my camera battery is dead and I can't find my charger) but I can write a few brief words on them. First off--they ROCK. For $24 you can't go wrong. I was only able to find a couple of spots on the web that had this particular model. 3" cut, 9" OAL, an angled oval thumb ring, extended shanks for high leverage (goes through stuff like it's not even there--they were made with the poultry industry in mind) straight cut, plain edged, and FORGED STAINLESS. It's surprisingly hard to find forged stainless scissors that aren't kitchen shears.

The finish on all of the parts that comprise the blade and make contact with the hand are all VERY nicely done for something so inexpensive (and USA made!)--there are a few rough spots, finish-wise, in places where it's purely cosmetic, and because these are stainless I'll be able to sand it out without ruining a nickel-plated coating. I'm sorely tempted to have a kydex sheath made up for these.

I'll post pics while I can, but even better would be buying a pair yourself! I've been looking for something like these for a long time, and I'm glad to have found them.
