SILICONE SPRAYS,IS IT SAFE ON LEAHTERS (WATERPROOFING)AND TO LUBRICATE FOLDERS?ALSO,CAN IT BE APPLIED TO BLADES FOR RUST PREVENTION?PLEASE GIVE ME U'R PROS AND CONS. THANKS, JUSTRIGHT:confused:

Silicone spray is used with fair success to waterproof finished (NOT suede) leather. It will serve as a fair corrosion inhibitor, and fair lubricant, but there are products which will serve much better for these last two purposes. Thin Film Corrosion Inhibitors such as Tuf-Cloth and Tuf-Glide, as well as products such as Mil-Spec and Renaissance Wax will provide better corrosion inhibition.

PTFE/grease and PTFE/oil combinations as well as MoS2 products will provide better lubrication. Check the search button for vigorous debates on these topics.

I find silicone spray most useful as a neoprene '0' ring lube.

Hope this helps, Walt

Hey JR...

I use Snap silicone spray quite abit around the shop...

For sheaths I use it mainlly on blades with Kraton or similar handles.. I use it when a blade is having an extremely tough time going in and out of a sheath...

The difference is like night and day,,and can actually make an otherwise tight knife pop/slide right out of the sheath if you aren't careful...

Do not spray silicone directly into a sheath as once the liqud evaporates it will leave a sticky residue on the inside of the sheath,,which will attract debris...

Rather spray it on your finger and slightly wipe the inside of the "Mouth" of the sheath with a little bit of silicone...Does a nice job at this...

Sometimes I will use it on folders,,but find it can also make them sticky,,until it's worked in...
