CRK Paracord Size?

Hey y'all, a forum search brought me know answer, but I am trying to make some CRK Sebenza style lanyards for my non CRK knives. I've found guides on how to tie them, but I cannot find what size/type of cord is used. I know it's smaller than 550.

The cord they use is more like shoe lace, or cordage I've found on inexpensive knives lanyards than paracord. Personally I'd much rather see them use a quality (para) cord, but maybe I'm alone in this.

Anyway, just use paracord or buy black cord that's a little smaller in diameter.

Do a search for "325 Paracord"; thats the stuff CRK uses. Most hobby/craft stores carry it - or at least they do in my neck of the woods. I much prefer 550 or 350 paracord though. I think it looks better and is easier to work with.

Really? This stuff is paracord? I wouldn't jump off a curb with this stuff let alone out of an airplane!

Absolutely not! That's the commercialized description of cheap crappy cordage. In fact, "550 paracord" is not actual parachute cord either. It seems like its been a good 60 years (or more) since it was actually used on a parachute. The more proper term would simply be 550 cord, but paracord sounds so much more exciting!

Huh... So what is the real paracord paracord?

I have no idea what real parachute cord is made from; probably some super exotic spider web/kevlar/dyneema type stuff.

Do a Google search on the "history of paracord". Funny enough, you'll find the 325 paracord absent from any (military) specification; it was apparently motivated by marketing alone. Personally, I think a shoe string company wanted to sell more shoe strings, so they called it "paracord"!

Once I bought, what I consider real paracord in OD.
This is a very nice product with the 7 inner strands and pretty slippery.
Trying to do some knots (i.e. a figure eight) I found that it slipped open.
Maybe it is impregnated with something to keep the lines from tangling - which makes sense to me since it is "para-cord".
So I found the commercial type "paracord" fits my needs better, as it is more sticky.
Thank You for the hint to the 325 cord.
