Completed a strip of the original coating along the blade. I know it's 1080, so I'm going to need to be careful with rust. Already working a patina

How was this knife holding up? I really like the looks of this blade, wish the handle swept forward a bit more
 
That looks like a nice piece. I am fairly comfortable with 1084, so this should be right in my wheel house.

If you like this, but have certain tweaks that you would like, take a look at the Osprey Knife &Tool "Raptor K".

Are you going to force it or just let it take its course? Let us see what you end up with! I'm inter stead!
 
I looked further into the alloy used, and it is not 1080, it is SK5, which was comparable to W108. There seems to be some peculiarities with the alloy names, and what each is comparable to or also known as.

Though W108 is now akin to SK85, as stated below.

Break down and comparisons of the alloys is listed below.

This is why thread necromancy is frowned upon.

Next time, create a thread in general chat asking for opinions. What would cause the OP to check this thread again? He hasn't been on the site since April.
