Is there anyone who owns one? Its on my list of buyable knives for the year but I haven't been hearing any "good" things about CRKT lately. Yay or Nay?

I have one. It is a lightweight knife with good flipping action. The texture on the handle is comfortable and makes it easy to grip. It cuts just fine.

I'd go for the real thing; but that's me

Do you really think it's worth that much of a premium, ~70$ vs ~430$. I don't know. The Mid Tech doesn't have "Wow"-Steel (Much better one of course but nothing that is a draw by itself), Ti vs Alu, both can be anodized, the two tone on the CRKT looks actually a little better than the dull gray on the Ti in stock form. I admit the backspacer looks a lot better on the Mid Tech. I'm not really into CRKTs these days, but a ~350$ premium...I guess I am not in love enough with the design.

my 2 cents.

My son gave me the CRKT Crossbones for Christmas. I love it. Great feel and action. I have not however carried it or cut with it, so I cannot speak for its effective usability. Because it came from my son, I will openly admit that fact greatly elevates the importance of it to me.

I havent been moved to buy a CRKT in over 15 years. That said, I was looking hard at the Bones for a while...and never bought it; so apparently I am not in love enough with the design, either. I stand by my initial statement, though (perhaps I should have bolded the "but that's me").

It's a valid view, no question. If it comes down to it, if enough people get the Bones over the Crossbones maybe it'll motivate CRKT to up their game with materials a bit.;)

I definitely understand where you are coming from. Of the CRKT's I have picked up over the last couple of years, very few have knocked me out and I don't have anymore CRKT's on my to-get list for the reasons you state. That being said, I doubt being outsold on one knife is going to make CRKT change their business model. Both versions have their niche markets.

For sure, but I feel like they would do well with a more premium line, comparable to Kershaw/ZT. They have so many excellent designers/designs that I would really enjoy in better materials. For example I'd buy a Tighe Tac Two with Aluminium Scales and say VG10/D2 for 80-100$ maybe with an increase in blade size to 3.5 - 3.75 inches. I have the regular model and it's a cool little knife, but a bit small and a bit meh material wise.
