Just a heads up for all you of you haven't heard of this blade. paid $20 for it and it's very nice. fit and finish are bang on....G 10 scales and super sharp out of box. Good retention, no play, solid lock up.

This is gonna be my edc for the next few weeks.

I have heard good things about CRKT,and that is a good looking folder. Keep us in the loop, I need a new work pocket knife.

I also like the CKRT. That is a pretty nice looking knife. I bought this one a few months back and i love it has been my EDC ever since i got it

This is another company that I like I have a Grey Ghost, M16-132 Carson and a Hammond Cruiser and I really like all three of them and i will probably end up with a few more CRKT's.

Sorry if i'm ruining it for you mate but I had a stainless one untill i found this:

http://www.exduct.com/folding-blade-knife/sanrenmu-srm-folding-knife-knives-707.html

I paid the equivalent of 45$ shipped from the uk!!!
I wish i known better!

Yep, same knife, same Chinese factory...they just slap on a different logo and triple the price.

I have the camo metal SRM drifter, AMAZING knife, very nice finish, super smooth...

I see that you removed the pocket clip. I did the same; that thing is horrible and it ruins the ergonomics of the knife. I didn't even have the right bit so I took a hacksaw to it to make some grooves for a flathead. Now that it's off, I like the knife so much better:)

They certainly are nearly the same but I don't know whether they are completely identical.

I bought the CRKT Drifters and checked out the 707 at the time I was looking at Sanrenmu knives.

Here is what I found:

Sanrenmu lists its 707 model as having a blade made from 8Cr13MOV steel with a HRC of 57 or 58 (differs depending upon the source.)

CRKT lists its Drifters as having a blade made from 8Cr14MOV steel with an HRC of 58-59.

I have no idea if this represents any meaningful difference -- these are both Chinese steels. But it does suggest that they might not be identical clones, FWIW.

BTW: I have seen the 707s advertised on fleabay for $9 ($4 plus $5 shipping.)

As to the CRKT models, I prefer the aesthetics of the SS frame-lock version but when it comes to pocket EDCing, I slightly prefer carrying the lighter-weight G10 liner-lock Drifter.

As to the clips, they may not be the best-looking but I like them because they are tight enough that they don't slip off the thin pockets of my running shorts.

I have several each of the liner-lock and frame-lock Drifters and they are all well-made and have been trouble-free. It is good to know that CRKT is there if the consumer needs service.

Thats some good information Flash, thanks for pointing out those differences in the metal.

I only have a small knife collection, but honestly my SRM Drifter is probably my favorite knife so far...I like the blade shade, and the solid feeling of the knife, etc.

Id love to get the CRKT version, I probably will at some point and look forward to it, since I like its grey-satin type finish, but man they are like 40USD shipped up here in Canada, vs $9 for the SRM...:(

Anyway its a great knife, Im very happy with mine.

One MINOR issue is that the lanyard hole is a bit too small to accept 550 paracord easily, but thats a no big deal really.

Mtell1,

Never noticed this before, but the lanyard hole in the CRKT G10 Drifter is smaller than that of the SS Drifter. I do not have the SRM 707 for comparison.

And the lanyard holes in both Drifters are smaller than that of the Sanrenmu 710, another favorite value folder.

(No photos, sorry; my friend is the photog and she doesn't get up this early!)

Posters on another thread are offering suggestions on beaters. I can't imagine a better beater choice than any of these three cousins.

Yeah the clip had to come off, the knife is small enough that it doesn't need it. I keep the knife in the little change pocket, fits in there nicely and doesn't get in the way of change or other things in my pocket.

I think the Drifter is an excellent value for the money however many will refuse to own one just because it is a CRKT.

Hi - Can you comment on why CRKT may cause issue for some people?

I thought they were a top brand, and very popular due to the M16 line and knives like that.

I think youd like the SRM707, if for no other reason than to see its coating and stripes on the blade. Its a very nice camo finish, Ive never had a knife with stripes on the blade, but I think it looks nice...(and as a spare/back-up to your CRKT Drifter...)

to some they are, and to other's they aren't.

various reasons why, but the ones i hear most often is mostly foreign made, almost no high end steels used, and weaker heat treat to make the blades more durable at the price of not holding an edge as long.

i own a couple crkt and i like mine just fine. customer service at crkt the one time i used it was fantastic, lightning fast and as helpful as i could ask for. gave me a choice to have me send my knife in and they'd fix it or they would send me out the part i needed and i could. i opted for the part to come to me and it showed up super fast.

too each their own, but i have no issues with crkt products or service, myself.

Just Got My Drifter In The Mail Today. Mine Is The G-10 Version. I'd Been Wanting It For A While, And Finally, Was Able To Trade For It, And Am Even More Impressed Than I Thought I Would Be. I Am In Love With This Little Knife. Not Too Big(Like My Smith And Wesson Homeland Security Tanto Folder), And Not Too Small(Like My Spyderco Bug Knife Which Is Just Awesome, But Too Small To Really Do Anything With.
So Overall I Give It a 5/5. It May Be Chinese Made But It's A Great Knife.
