CRKT Eros Question

I was thinking about buying the stainless steel version of the CRKT Eros, however I'm worried about the thinness of the blade. Does anyone here have any experience with it? I'd be using it as an EDC and most likely the heaviest use it'd go through would be slicing up cardboard (not opening packages, but actually slicing through the cardboard material). I've read and watched reviews and no one specifically mentions how the blade does against standard cardboard material. Do you think it'd be able to hold up? I know this sounds stupid but like I said, the thinness has got me paranoid!

Welcome! What leads you believe it is too thin for an EDC? Are you used to thicker EDCs?

It's not that I'm used to thicker EDCs, it's just that basing off of the reviews that I've read and watched, everyone mentions that it is noticeably thin. In other words, it's not as thick as other EDC blades, especially at the tip.

If you are not used to "thick"...it should be fine. I EDC a Case Peanut. Fine. People EDC Opinels. Fine.

Ultimately, the question is "Is it too thick or thin for you?" Doesn't matter what the YouTube reviewers say.

I own one that rotates into my EDC from time to time. Great little knife, though the detent is a little weak on mine.
I've cut through cardboard and canvas just fine.

I'll also add that there are plenty of well known knives with thin tips that people EDC. The PM2, leek, and skyline come to mind. Further, the leek is another option. Just don't do anything with it that you shouldn't do with a knife anyway and you should be fine. And heck, if you like it, just get it!

I carry my CRKT Eros Titanium (3" Acuto+ Satin Plain Blade - Model# K455TXP) when exercising because it's very light, corrosion resistant and quite capable of cutting through cardboard as long as you don't overstretch the blade tip.

I have the (titanium) Eros. Out of all my ~3" folders, it sports the thinnest, 'shortest', and by far--pointiest blade. Frankly I have not used it a ton, partly because the blade shape and 1.4 oz weight on this model make it feel better-suited to lighter-caliber tasks. Just now I took it to some thick cardboard and it cut through better than I would've imagined; but if I was processing a lot of cardboard I'd prefer a knife that felt a little more substantial.

Just my 2 cents.

I probably won't even be using the knife on a real daily basis because my lifestyle doesn't exactly require it, but I think it'd be nice just to have a pocket knife handy. And you're right; I've been thinking about the Eros for a while so I might as well just go for it

Alright, thanks! That helps a bunch. As I stated in a previous reply, I don't really use knives on a day to day basis, but I think it's nice to regularly carry a knife because you never know when you'll need it. I was debating between the Eros and the Rat 2 as this is going to be my first EDC. The Rat 2 seems great, but the sexiness of the Eros is what's getting me!

Me and my Eros . . . :)

I carry my Ti Eros in the coin compartment of my wallet. At 1.4 ounces, it's barely noticeable. It's a great little backup blade if I don't feel like carrying one of my larger EDCs. I never home without it.

It is a great knife. I've got the Ti version and love it. Had it for afew years. I used it for anything EDC and it's held up great and performed like a champ. It's also a little like a folding shank. The point has good geometry and has maintained itself through a few sharpenings. The Actos steel is great. On mine the detent is perfect for safety and good flipper action.

When the Ti Eros first came out I saw it in a gun or knife magazine and loved the blade shape. I never ended up getting it, but I am sure that if you use it only to cut, as intended, then you should have no problem with the blade snapping. It's a good looking knife.

When I was playing with the Eros in the store a huge flaw that I saw when I went to deploy it my fingers on the pocket clip put soo much pressure on the lockbar that it could not deploy. And the thing is so small that there is nowhere else to put your fingers. Just my 2 cents

I've owned the titanium version and disliked it because the detent was idiotically strong. I sold it and bought another and the second one had a detent that was much too weak! Also the locks would stick really bad on both. CRKT's QC is all over the place and I haven't bought any of their American made stuff since. Perhaps they're better now, I can't say.

If you want a thin, lightweight, sleek, pointy blade you should check out the Kershaw Leek. It's cheap and comes in a million different styles and colors.

Take a look at Boker urban trapper, it's blade stock is thicker, superb slicer, titanium scale and weights nothing. It's same size as the Eros when folded.

I have both but the Boker sees a lot more use, the Eros stainless is a bit heavy or its size. You will hear people complain about it being too slippery which is true mostly because there's no texture and with the weight plus my hands are sweaty... They are both gentleman's folder, apple to apple the Boker wins out right, titanium handle, VG10 blade, better grind for slicing utility, lighter than EROS,... Heck if u really want a EROS I will sell my to you for cheaps

Eros always seemed a little small for me, but it might be right up your alley.

I also want to recommend a Kershaw Leek. Get the composite blade version and cut all day

I also own the Ti Eros and the Boker Urban trapper. Both get a lot of pocket time. But the Eros wins out for extreme pointyness and the titanium textured handle grips the pants pocket fabric and stays in place. I love the Urban trapper, but feel it's a bit dressier because of it's sleeker design and larger blade. Eros's thin blade stands up to every day challenges providing you are not planning to unpack large appliances!
