For 42$ (with tax), I purchased a CRKT fossil 5470 at my local Walmart. I wanted the smaller one, but as I couldn't find the other one in stores, I took what I could get. I know this model can be roughly 100$ elsewhere, so I was satisfied and got about the lowest price. The knife itself is awesome. Looks really cool, and the look also adds functionality. The blade is very thick, and that might make it not very good for slicing, but I havnt tested that part yet. The steel is decent, and comes razor sharp out of the box, so no real need to touch it up. The blade shape is slightly recurved, and it's very functional. The build quality is great. Very good for a 40 dollar knife, and I don't get the feeling it will come apart at all. Lockup is good with absolutely no bladeplay. Now best for last is the opening. It is not assisted, but it has a ball bearing opening system, which in my opinion works better than my speedsafes or other assisted, plus I don't see how it could break. Extremely smooth. Anyone else with a fossil, what are your thoughts?

I handled one, and it had fairly sharp edges. I typically avoid 8Cr14MoV/Chinese knives, but they make great, inexpensive gifts for knife novices. I hate the looks of the handle, but love the blade shape, smooth action, and ergos. If it had a regular handle I would probably give it a try.

I was given one last Christmas by my daughter. Not one I would have chosen, but one that I ll always keep. Recommended to her by the knife counter people at the local Bass Pro Shop.
On inspection, it appears well made. Comfortable in hand. Attractive. Very smooth action with flipper. Slightly stiff to open with the thumb studs. Got smoother as I handled it. Decent knife. Seems sturdy. I ll try to carry it soon. I ve carried my Tenacious with that steel and it was ok.
