CRKT M16-10KZ opening help.

Hey guys... I bought a M16-10KZ today. I saw a few videos of M16s being opened and no one, not a single person had to flick their wrist to get it opened up all the way.

I seem to have to flick it with my wrist to get it opened all the way. I'm afraid to disassemble the knife or touch any of the bolts. I'm guessing I can lubricate it somehow, but i'm afraid to lubricate it, I don't want to mess it up.

The farthest it will open without the aid of wrist flinging is exactly halfway.

Can anyone help me?

Note: I don't have any special knife lubricators. So.. If lubrication is the answer, help me out.

If it is brand new, I'm guessing needs a little break in to smooth it out (open and close a few hundred times while watching tv.) Other trouble shooting would be to spray with WD-40, wash the pivot area with soap and water, dry with a hair dryer, and lube up with some oil. You don't have to get fancy on the oil. 3 in 1 oil that you can get anywhere, would work just fine. I use gun oil, because that is what I have sitting around.

Other than that, I don't have the knife so can't further trouble shoot, but someone with specific experience will chime in.

Umm FYI, It's a Zytel handle, and I heard that WD-40 kills Zytel. Also, I've flipped it open atleast 100 times if not 200 times today...

Just press back the flipper as if you were snapping your fingers with your index and thumb.

i have the same knife. take a straight edge screw driver, and back the pivot screw out until you can open her with no problem. easiest way of doing things.

Oh yeah, I know. That's pretty much the only way to do it haha... It still doesn't open up all the way...

I have a short Youtube vid coming. I got it open up almost all the way once though.

I don't want to loosen it... I really don't want it falling apart on me haha.

your choice. thats how i did it on mine. if it still doesn't work you have two options. one is take the plunge and oil it, or two, get on a strength building workout for you finger lol

When you pull back on the flipper, do you feel a resistance from the ball bearing on the liner lock? The ball bearing, the thing that keeps the blade closed, is actually the thing that assists in opening the blade. Try pulling back on the flipper harder.

just saw the vid. you need to oil it up a bit and back the screw off just a hair. it wont fall apart on ya. if only you knew what i did to mine to fix the lock..............after what it went through with that, Zytel is stronger than one might think

Well.. If I open and close it, like manually, you can definitely feel the liner lock rubbing that blade.. So yeah, there is a bit of resistance.

Also, do they sell Militec in Super Wally Worlds since I live behind one.

Also, If I try to loosen it (left.. Not sure if that's reversed on the knife) it stops and gives a bit of resistance so I don't want to break it. Same with tightening it (right)

It is super fast this way

Yeah... Atleast it should be. I guess I just need to flick it another 250 times... but my whole arm is hurting from doing various movements with the knife... It's too fun haha.

WD-40 won't hurt Zetyl, if it's not opening press down hard on the flipper and snap you finger back and towards the top of the handle while pressing down. And wash dry and lube.

I've got a 10kz and a 13z, and the 13z is just a lot smoother. It opens as easy as any of my assisted opening knives. A little wrist motion helps as you flick the Carson flipper on the 10kz. A drop of oil won't hurt. I judge the LAWKs mechanism on the 13Z to be better as well - a flat side contacts the liner lock instead of an edge. BTW, CRKT is really good about shipping replacement parts - bushings, spring, etc. if you ever need them. Even a replacement pocket clip.

I have several CRKT's in the M16 series, bigger and smaller. I've had to adjust the pivot screw on most of them. All it will take is about 1/8th of a turn, or less, to get it where it works just fine.

The Uzi the army gave me was little bit bigger!

Well other than WD-40.. what can I use.. I just don't feel like getting that crap all over...

Because Uzis are bigger than Mac-11s. Uzis come in 3 different sizes, Uzi, Uzi Mini, and Uzi Compact.

We were issued Uzis with a wooden stock for certain static guard duties.
