Hey, so I got the knife over eBay a couple days ago and from opening the box I loved the knife. It's big and heavy, both qualities I look for in a good EDC blade. But I do have something that I hope some of y'all can help me with.

I've read about the history of the knife, how it's a special forces knife and such like but I've read some reviews and watched some YouTube videos and the opinions are all mixed. And obviously since this is my new EDC knife, I'd like to get to the bottom of it.

So what I'm wondering is if you own one of these knives and have put it through it's paces, I'd like to hear your review. Like I said before I've only had the knife maybe a couple days now and obviously haven't had the chance to test it for myself. I appreciate your feedback!

I have an M16-14sfg which is almost the exact same thing apart from the blade shape. I have buttoned with this knife, and the lock never gave and held up fine throughout the buttoning. Thats really the heaviest work i've done with it, sorry. I'm not really a fan of the serrations. My brother chewed them up simply cutting a square piece of hardwood. The Veff serrations are my only complaint. My uncle flies apaches and blackhawks and has carried one in the cockpit. I think he likes his fine. Overall it's a great knife!

Where did you read this? On the CRKT website? On the website of an online knife retailer selling the knife?

Its marketing nonsense. Everybody claims their knives are used by special, forces or "designed for pro operators."

Doesn't make it a bad knife, especially if you like it.

Knifecollector73, thats really good to hear. That makes me feel better. Although I haven't really ever heard of the separations on a knife being damaged like that.. And Marcinek, I read that off of CRKT and in several descriptions of the knife. I have no idea if its true or not but yes, I do like the knife and I do look forward to seeing what it can really do.

If you get on YouTube and type in crkt m16-14sfg abuse or test, than you should get a video of someone destroying his, so you can see quite how far they can be pushed. Sorry but the video is in russian.

CRKT makes wonderful knives for the price but marcinek is right. All that Special Forces BS is nothing but a marketing scheme to make all the mall ninjas want to buy their knives.

I watched a little bit of that video and it looks like it can take a pretty good amount of abuse but I haven't watched it all the way through yet. Needless to say its a little bit of a slow loader haha. And yeah I kinda figured maybe the special forces stuff was just a gimmick but I didnt know for sure. All in all I think it'll likely be an awesome knife. Have yall ever had trouble with the knife holding an edge??

I haven't but its not my main carry. It is 8crMov14 or something like that which i have had on other knives that held an edge fine.

Well thats awesome, I read it was some kind of Chinese steel like that so it naturally had me worried since I usually dont stray far from my Buck knives such as my 110 or there's another one that I got at Wal-Mart for like $30, both USA made. But even though its foreign made, this one was just so big and intimidating I had to see what was up with it haha

It fails miserable shortly into the video. The liner lock actually breaks in half. That being said that doesn't mean it's a bad knife. To be fair the knife was not designed for batoning and spine whacking.

It did fail shortly, but did you happen to notice how badly he was beating that knife. It definitely wasnt designed for that.

The thing is though, its good to know of worse came to worse you could push it that far but like when you're using the knife for day to day tasks, it won't break down like I've been hearing. Now thats just my opinion but then again every once in awhile you'll find a knife that has defects that will affect it in day to day use. I doubt the one I have will though. Using it at work for cutting plastic wrap or cardboard etc. It seems to do great and thats probably the most vigorous use mine will see.
