CRKT Minimalist

I have the CRKT version of the sting and love it. I've not handled the Minimalist, but it looks like a great little neck knife, and at a very affordable price. It's a good example of the things CRKT does right in producing such a broad array of designs at the price point to which it caters. That would make an excellent self-defense EDC.

For a utility knife of the type you describe I'm sure you could get by with just about any knife, ranging from a bird and trout model to something more elaborate. Any particular reason you were drawn to the Minimalist?

Anyone know if there is any way to turn that minimalist into a sheath knife? Using a tec-lock maybe?

It depends on whether the grommets in that sheath line up with the mounting holes on the Tek Lok, but I would think so.

I just picked up the Minimalist about 3 weeks ago.

As you can probably tell, I've attached a MercHarness to mine. It's so light, it makes a fantastic concealed "just in case" knife. The jimping on the spine is grippy and even though the handle only accomodates three fingers, the pinky fits snug around the dangling fob. No problems at all. Love the black/green wavy design on the Micarta handles.

Compared to some of my other neck knives, I forget I'm even wearing it. The Wharncliffe blade is also very easy to sharpen (one of the easiest to sharpen IMO). Before I made my purchase, I was deciding between this knife, the CRKT Sting (glad to hear you like your Sting Sharp Phil), and the CRKT Crawford Triumph N.E.C.K. What helped me more than anything was a fantastic review on the Minimalist I saw on YouTube (Only video review I could find on it). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mdZbMWxwWw

And because it was cheaper than the others, I figured I'd use the extra money to pick up another knife. (I'm going to pick up the others in good time.) If you intend to pick up a blade for backpacking, there's no reason that I can think of as to why you shouldn't consider the Minimalist--especially if you're on a weight budget with gear.

As far as the Cold Steel TAC's go, they do look pretty cool don't they? The smaller Counter TAC II definitely caught my eye. I love the purchase I get on the Kraton handles but the handle on my CS SRK has started to wear out with use--so when I do end up picking up the TAC II, I'm going to rotate it regularly with some of the others I like to carry presently.

Anyway, hope this helps.
