From the CRKT website:

Get ready to come out swinging.

Arriving 4.2.2025 - It’s not every day that a new tool comes along and completely transforms its category. The Provoke® X is exactly that tool. It builds on the success of the original Provoke® karambit, bringing the innovative Kinematic® technology to a new product category. This first-of-its-kind morphing axe fits in your pocket and deploys with a satisfying flick of the wrist, ready to swing into action at a moment’s notice.

The blade and spike are secured open with our industry-leading Deadbolt® lock and slide into recessed positions on the handle when closed. Closing the axe automatically sets the safety, which is easily released in either hand and from either side of the handle. Corrosion-resistant, titanium nitride-coated D2 steel ensures the Provoke® X can take a beating; a trustworthy deterrent for all who’ve learned to expect the unexpected.
  • Unique Innovation: Kinematic® deploys the blade with flick of the wrist
  • Strong And Simple: Deadbolt® lock provides incredible strength and it's easy to use
  • Superior Performance: D2 blade steel for excellent edge retention
  • Safe And Secure: Automatic safety prevents accidental opening
  • Carry Options: Adjustable pocket clip for easy concealment and left or right hand carry

They are calling it a deterrent. Lol. 🤷‍♂️ Don't even know what to say. CRKT used to at least take themselves seriously.

Like the Provoke knife , IMO , meets a need only for unnecessary mechanical complexity and multiple failure points .

Also , when unfolded , the handle really looks like an ergonomic nightmare .

Yeah it looks extremely uncomfortable to use, and very impractical to carry around.

I've got a fantasy of having the one of Blackwell's folding tomahawks featured in William Gibson's novel "Idoru," but this isn't it.

Love Gibson, but I've never read Idoru. How is it described in the novel?
It's been years but what I remember is Blackwell, a body guard for the some of the other main characters, uses a couple of folding tomahawks to kill some attackers. It is one of his novels I only have in print, so I'll have to find it to quote the part it's in. It's been over a decade and I feel like I'm due a re-read.

I imagine it would work somewhat like one of these folding war picks that all the pieces unfold in the same direction and can be flicked out.
