CRKT razel

I have two of them, the ringed version and the stubby. In fact, I liked the stubby one so much I went ahead and got the Graham Knives custom version. The ringed razel is a little bigger, and has a lot more handle sticking out of your pocket. For me, it was too big for EDC so it stays in my car. The stubby is very useful. Having that chisel tip has come in handy many times for prying and scraping. This little knife is built like a tank.

The cons: really cheaply made sheath. Also, the sharpening choil tends to get snagged on fibrous materials.

I have 2, the stubby and the large folder. I also have a custom Graham ringed razel, and I have to say the quality
of the CRKT stubby is amazingly high for the price point, the only detraction being the cheaply/poorly made Kydex
sheath. That being said, it compares amazingly well with its custom counterpart.

I'm afraid I can't be as enthusiastic about the folder. It is heavy, not particularly sharp and sports a weird mini
pocket clip that all but guarantees you will lose this knife. Its probably better than I'm describing but pales in
comparison to the stubby.

I have had the folder for about 4 weeks now and have used it at work (mechanic) alot. I have to say, I really like this knife. It is very smooth opening. The micarta was a little slippery out of the box but after sanding with some 600 it is perfect . I like the little grahm pocket clip.I have had no issues with the knife slipping out of my pocket and I ride a bicycle to work. IT had a great working edge on it out of the box , not shaving sharp but a edge that is sharp enough and will hold up in a work use much longer than a shaving sharp edge. The lock is awesome and I feel I can trust it under hard use.Over all it is a great work knife for a relly good price.I would love to get a ringed razel from Grahm one day I'm sure it is worth the cash but until then I will use the crap out of my CRKT.

enjoy cool!

I have the SS7 and the ringed Razel. Both are wicked blades. The SS7 is an incredible chopper. I don't know much about the steel it's made from, but the main edge holds it's sharpness really well. The serrations on the back don't seem to be for sawing wood, more likre really tough hide or rope. They both make subpar chisels, though. Great for scraping, though. Just don't try oppening clams or oysters with them.

I have a stubby folder on the way from ebay. will update after it arrives.

CRKT's ringed version is a great tool! It's a good scraper, takes and holds a good edge, and is just a handy piece of gear to have around. I agree that the sheath isn't all it could be, but I might remove the metal clip and drill some holes for a tek-lok.

Every rages about these knives, especially the custom...until i can afford a real razel, i'll try the CRKT SS7 version...might even do a review on BF! That'd be a first...

I have the CRKT Ringed Razel which I purchased in anticipation that I would be ordering a custom from Jon Graham. I tried it out and I just could not get used to it. I got cut a couple of times due to the edge configuration that I am not used to. Bought the stubby folder and I like it. It is a little chunky in the pocket, but I have carried it as an EDC from time to time. If I get a custom, it will be a folder, but probably a little longer than the stubby folder made by CRKT.

If you like the design, the CRKT versions are surprisingly good and excellent trial blades for a custom.

Side note: I was at the archery range yesterday and someone in the lane next to me missed their target and embedded their arrow into target stand. They couldn't pry it out with their pocket knives (worried about their knife tips breaking), but knew I had a Stubby Razel on me (we talk knives alot at the range). We jammed the Razel into the split in the wood, put all my weight on it, and were able to pull the arrow out. Tough little knife!

Wow..I doubt ill be using it for a prybar or anything...Just wondering about steel quality on ss7--would love carbon steel version
