Does anyone have one of these? I just bought this one. Then I found out it's like a 10/22 in that you can accessorize this model and it's brother the 1322 almost as much as a 10/22.
My question is about the option of the steel breech. I know it will give me the option of mounting a scope and better open sights but will it help it shoot further? What other advantages will the steel breech afford me? Also, not wanting to break the bank on a $69.95 pellet pistol, what other options will help?
Thanks ahead of time.

I have had a 1377 for many years, it's a good little pneumatic pellet pistol but it's effective range is limited due the low velocity and the short sight radius. You have to be careful with the pellet gun numbers, manufactures use the absolute lightest pellets they can find to jack up the FPS for marketing reasons, when you use a good heavy hunting pellet expect to loose 15-20% of that published velocity. My 1377 has bagged tree rats from about 15 yards, any further and the low velocity makes a clean kill an iffy proposition. I did some mods to the valve to open up air flow and installed a gold bead front sight for better acquisition in low light. I never felt the need to scope it due to the limited range. As far as a 1377 being used as survival gear, I would want a .22 rimfire like a Ruger MK II

I love the 13xx pistols, I have both .177 and .22. First thing I always do is a trigger job. Smooth and lower sear engagment, turn a brass plug for the spring to ride the sear, fully compress spring to lighten it a bit and adjust the length with the brass plug. Some people use a spent .22 long rifle cartridge but I can make one from .250 brass rod in a few minutes.

Next it almost always filing the top of the rear sight blade down and elongating the mount hole, every one I have owned and shot out of the box (plastic clamshell) has shot way high for me.

Then go through and tighten all assembly screws, they can be loose.

As far as steel breach increasing velocity, no. It wont. More air (piston mods) or better air flow (valve mods) will do that. Reducing head space in the piston will help. This is the gap between piston and valve when it is closed.

For accuracy, check the crown and try different pellets. I know what my guns like best but I always sight in using crosman premier hollow points because I can get them cheap, they're nice and uniform, and always shoot "good enough."

With just the trigger mods and this one has a custom rear sight, they are quite capable if you know your distance limits...

Thanks Mr. Smith. I live in suburbia. I do have woods out back, but suburbia in the front. Get my drift? I thought possibly it could take a coon til I learned how thick skulled they are. Even if I had one in a trap in front of me, I still couldn't take it down. I just got it yesterday. I can still return it. It did say UP TO 600 fps????

I bought the Crosman Destroyer .177 pellets? And yes - it did shoot high?

Coon's are a bit much for any .177, imo. Even magnums. Might be ok with .22 pellets if you get into the 800-1100 range, but you won't be getting that out of a pistol.

I went with the .177 vs. the .22 for the fps. naturally the lighter .177 would go faster. I thought that meant it would hit harder? Wrongo? Either way. I thought at point blank, no problem? I guess the vitals are out of the question also? Remember, we're talking one caught in a trap and then euthanized.
I know there's always drowning or whatever? I was hoping for quick and painless.

Also, before somebody chimes in about the law, I've already checked. The only thing I cannot do is relocate them. Because you could be relocating disease. Euthanization is legal.

Agaisnt coon? The only way to kill a coon with a 1377 is behind the shoulder. Such is a cruel task and is not recommended at all. Even 22 cb 's fail to penetrate coon skull sometimes at point blank.

Use ENOUGH GUN.

Or use a big blade.

How hard it hits is mass x velocity. Faster doesn't matter much for this purpose if the pellet is too light.

No pellet pistol gets where I think you need to be to humanely dispatch a raccoon.

7 grain pellet going 600 fps has the same energy as a 14gr .22 pellet going 450fps. It will penetrate deeper, all things being equal, but it pretty much just gains a flatter trajectory.

For a trapped coon I would think gassing with CO (car exhaust) would be more humane than drowning. It will just get a little headache and fall asleep. Drowning is rather violent, imo. But this is not a topic about ethics.

When I ran my 1377 over the chrono a 7.4 grain pointed hunting pellet averaged 500 FPS, the 10 grain Kodiak pellets for larger game were 400 FPS. Not something for a Raccoon or Opossum. For dispatching larger garden varmints I use a 20 year old Sheridan Silver Streak with 8 pumps pushing a .20 caliber 14.3 grain domed pellet at 650 FPS, it goes clean trough a 1/2" pine board and almost through a 3/4" board.

Even the sheridan with domed pellets can fracture and not penetrate all the way squirrel skull at 15 paces.

Thank you gentlemen, the 1377 is going to be returned. Sing along with me, I fought the coon and the coon won, I fought the coon and the...coon won....

I don't care, to put that much money into a pellet rifle or do the exhaust thing so - they win. I can only look forward to winter time when they don't come around as often.

Thanks for the education into pellet guns and coons.

Hey Coug, where you been man? Give us a rendition of I fought the law and...the law won? For old times sake?

BTW. 1377 was returned today. That case is closed.

Yea, you're right. If I ever get another, I'll go on Amazon instead of where I got mine. I could of gotten a package deal with the steel breech and I think the shoulder extension for not a bunch more.
