What do you guys think about these? I just bought a Cross Classic Century and although it is an excellent pen, it feels kinda light and cheap.

I have a Fisher Space Pen and I love it but I use my Cross Pen when I feel the need to class it up. I like bother but the grip on the Cross kinda sucks my fingers slide down.

Cross pens have never felt cheap to me.

Having gotten a couple of sets for gifts or awards over the years.... I never did like 'em.

Well made, but the chrome-plated barrels always felt slick to me, and I was never impressed with the way they wrote; ink tended to "ball up" on the tip.

I've never really been a Cross fan but I once received a gold-tipped Cross fountain pen as recognition and thanks from some folks I worked with on a temporary duty assigment, and I have always since used it to sign official documents. I have some nice blue ink I got from Levenger and it really stands out on the page.

My EDC pocket pen is a Parker. Big fat sucker - I have no idea what model it is but I use the big gel ink refill in black. Nice smooth pen.

the typical cross pen has always felt too thin for me...once one decides to own a pen better then a plastic bic/pilot/etc., it becomes personal with regards to fit and feel in hand...i like lamy's, then up from that i'm a peliken man...

but really, some of the "cheap" pens you can buy in multi packs at walmart, office depot, staples, etc. are really great writers...i do have my favorite pilot pens with great grips i get in 3packs...

Have been using Cross pens daily for over 30 years now---not really happy the newer ones are now made in China---was given a set of the Chinese ones a while back but haven't broken them out since my US ones are holding up fine---so really can't give an honest opinion on how the Chinese ones perform.

The colored ones are a bit more grippy than the bare metal ones---my EDC pens are the black/gold ones---been using those for 10 years now---have lost a set--my current ones are pretty well worn--then have are nicer set if I need to dress up and another set still in the box if I lose these or they get run through the washer etc...

So ya---I like em.

I use only Cross Gel-Rolling-Ball pens.

I do not recall ever paying more than 20 bucks for one, and often receive compliments on how great it feels in hand (it is medium-heavy weight), and how well it writes (lays the ink out pretty heavy, but never streaks, runs, sputters, drips, or collects around the tip.

Many assume it is a far more expensive pen than it is. (I hand it over 10-20 times a day for people to sign documents).

I've had the same Cross pen since the mid 60's. Now 40 some years later, it's dented up a bit, most of the chrome is worn off, and the twist action is a little stiff and notchy, but it still hangs in there. Takes abut a refill every 8 months. It's my favorite pen, and I use it for all my bill paying and check signing. Love how smooth it writes.

I've heard they now are made in China, but if they are still as rugged and good quality as the old ones, it should lest you the rest of your life.

Sorry I'm awaking such an old thread, but I thought perhaps someone might have some information concerning a Cross pen I want to find a refill for.

I need some assistance and perhaps this is the place to ask it, perhaps not. I am not a pen collector per se. I do have many pens, but rarely do I use them past their original fill. Allow me to explain a bit, here. I have several cross pens I received over the years, but had stopped using them after they ran out of ink, or I used them up to a point where I lost interest in the pen. This happens to be the case with this particular pen I am about to ask you about. This pen is NOT a fountain pen. Second, I used it until it ran out of ink, then stopped using it. Several years I ago I rediscovered this pen in a drawer and wanted to use it again. I took the ink cartridge out intending to replace it, however, I lost the cartridge so I couldn't replace it. Fast Forward a few more years, and here I am again wanting to use this pen. But, I still cannot locate the proper refill for it nor have I seen any of these pens in the current Cross lineup.

My wife got this for me back in 1997. It is not the standard (common) cross pen. This pen had a particularly different ink cartridge. The ink was not the standard ballpoint, it was more of a felt tip type ink (if that makes sense). I don't want to say it was gel ink, because, well, I don't think it was. Anyway, I enclosed pics of the pen body in the hopes that someone may know something about this pen. Like I inferred above, I am not a collector and really know next to nothing about pens.

Thanks for any assistance.

Holy necro-post, Batman! ;)

Check over at fountainpennetwork.com if you can't come up with anything here. Tons of knowledgeable people there.

The refill for that pen used to be called the 'Select Tip' series or something akin to that. They offered rollerball, felt tip, fibre tip, and I think even a ball point refill. Not sure if they still offer it. The refill looked more like a Mont Blanc or pilot gel refill than the skinny Cross style.

Just looked it up, they still offer a rollerball refill that should fit that pen.
