Hi guys!

I´m thinking about getting one theese two hawks.

I gonna use it just for self defiance or as an house-defending-tool, or what ever. Maybe as a sporting tool for throwing it.

I personally like the look of both tools. But the main questions I have are about the handles.

Which material is the handle made at the TH?
Is the TH-handle removable, so in case of breaking it, can I add a wooden handle at the hawk?
Is the handle at the TH screwed or clued or whatever?
How strong is the spike "curved" at the SH? At all the pictures it´s not so good to see.

I´m looking forward to getting some new information!

Kind regards

Hey Humppa the handels are made of hickory yes the handels are removable . There is a set screw in the head that you should get rid of right away as far as the spike hawk goes dont know dont have one. Theres a thread here modding the cold steel trail hawk that will answer all your ?

Hi Legion!

Thank you for the replie. The TH handle seems to be any synthetic. So far at the pics, I´ve seen til now. The SH handles seem to be wood, as well as the Trail Hawk, which I already own and use as a little hatchet during lumberworking for removing dry branches. The handle already broke... I fixed it up, but not very well, need to replace the handle at the Trail hawk... (but that´s OT, now)

Kind regards

Kind regards Your right hummpa the trench hawk handle is synthetic didnt read your post right the spike hawk is wood as far as your trailhawk goes you could always make your own with a sledge hammer handle from a hardeware store or something like that save you some money

Hi guys!

Has noone other information in comparison with theese two hawks?

Kind regards

I prefer the Trench Hawk. It has a solid, positive feel to it that I don't get w/ the Spike Hawk. The longish handle in tandem w/ head makes it a formidable tool.

i Have a modded spike hawk head from Vector on the regular 22 or 30 inch handles.

The spike on the spike hawk is actually pretty well profiled up to the socket and it splits wood quite well.

I know that this doesn't answer the question, but both are so inexpensive that this may be a case of getting your cake and eating it too... in other words get both. I did and I like them both. The Spike hawk represents the historical and the Trench Hawk the present. In my opinion the Trenchhawk is the more intimadating, badass looking hawk.

Welcome aboard Humppa!
The Trench Hawk has a polymer (plastic) handle. The head slides down with an extended tang into a slot in the handle. Two bolts go through the handle on one side and thread into threaded wing/claw style threaded inserts on the other side. It is a solid union. The replacement plastic handles are around 7.00. If you were able to slot a wooden handle accurately enough I am sure you could replace the plastic with wood using the hardware from the plastic handle or by buying similar hardware locally.
The Spike Hawk takes the conventional hawk handle where the head slides up the handle from the small end and taper fits towards the larger end. The spike is VERY strong and solid on this hawk, as is the cutting edge.DSC08973.jpgDSC08959.jpg
I have the spike hawk and love it. I bought my brother the Trench Hawk and he loves that one. Both chop nicely and make formidable weapon oriented tools.
I personally prefer the Manufacturing style of the Spike hawk especially for harder use, throwing and such. YMMV Good Luck in your search!!:D
Both are worth owning.

Thank you guys for your replies!

Well, here in Germany hawks are not as popular and so hardly to get. But nevertheless, I´d like to own any of them. It´s good to hear, that the TH handle can be replaced with a wooden handle.

Til now, both hawks are nice, I´m still thinking. I make my own handles. A friend of mine is carpenter for furniture. He has a wood-drilling-machine. So that´s no problem to make them on my own. I posted alread two of my own made handles on here in the axe forum on some historical axe-patterns.
