Gents.

Is there a current production knife similar to the Gerber Mark II?

I don't like the recent production Gerber Mark II's. Would prefer a look alike high quality repro with no blade serrations- kydex sheath would be a plus. Thanks for any possible direction!

Not exactly identical, but Spartan Blades has two different varieties of daggers that probably come the closest- the Harsey, and the George V14.

But they aren't cheap.

You might try Ek knives. I think they made a similar dagger. Ek Commando.
Owned I think by Kabar now.
Or you got Sykes/Fairbairn and it's many iterations.

The MkI/MkII are sort of iconic.
I would try and find a vintage one.

There's nothing like a Mark II but the Bastinelli Grozo comes close.

But, since, I've already got an early vinatage 80's vintage Mark II and Command II (which didn't cost any more than what the Grozo is going for) there really wasn't any point in buying one.

If Gerber would reissue a classic high quality version- without serrations and a kydex sheath- they would sell a boat load of them-

Thanks again

Bastinelli Grozo (available in partially serrated variants)
Boker A-F (adjustable balance point; includes Kydex pancake sheath and tek-lok clip)
Boker M92 (recently disco'd but you may still be able to find one; includes tek-lok compatible kydex taco sheath but no clip)
Cold Steel Drop Forged Wasp (budget friendly)
Extrema Ratio Suppressor (probably the most similar profile to the MkII)
Fox Bellum Daga
Fox Modras
Heretic Nephilim
Kabar EK44
Spartan George V-14
Spartan Harsey
Steel Will Fervor 1201 (mfg by Viper/Tecnocut; micarta scales; cheapest Italian N690 option)
Walther DagTac 1 (ultra low budget)
Walther P99 (ultra low budget A-F clone, partially serrated)

If you can get your hands on one of the un-serrated versions you could have a kydex sheath made for it.

I'd keep an eye on Arizona Custom Knives, an online knife consignment shop. In the past year they've had 3 standard model un-serrated Mark 2's for sale (sold now), and for less money than the Spartan daggers I mentioned earlier.

Checked out the Wasp looks like if would fit!- trying to find one now, as usual- out of stock. lol will keep looking thanks again gents- the Wasp looks good.

Still a pretty easy knife to find. Pair it with a custom Kydex sheath for one of our many brilliant sheath makers on BF and you are good to go.
However I have to say the Spartan/Les George V14 is a better knife in almost every way and if you order it directly from Spartan they will make it with a custom thinned extra sharp edge. Very cool.

Good luck with your search! :)

Interesting article..... I didn't see the FS mentioned?

The F-S is pretty much a dedicated stabbing tool. It can be sharpened, and many modern daggers evolved from it, but it's not going to be very good at the sorts of non-stabby field tasks you'd be able to do with some other models. The handle is slender and non-indexing, and the sheath is not very serviceable by modern standards.

The A-F is an improved successor to the F-S, with a more planar blade profile, and a much fuller and more comfortable handle with proper indexing.

Again thanks for the replies- I picked up a well used "Valor Miami" Mark II clone from a web vender- ordered a kydex sheath for it off of flea bay. The knife is well used and I may have payed a bit to much but no matter I like it. Original mark II's are very expensive now, so glad to have it (the Valor dagger) to test out.

Handle is green, blade has some light pitting and it has been sharpened- I used some ballistol on the blade to try to clean it up. Handle is worn (paint faded out) I may have the blade polished, pro re sharpened and the handle repainted or karicoted (sp)?

original leather sheath it came with-is intact but worn- it got the balistol treatment as well.

Not a true double edge - with the "Valor Miami USA" facing up to the right the first two inches of the blade are serrated, the blade then tapers and then the back edge is un-sharped blunt and quite thick for about 4 inches, left side of the blade is sharp from point to hilt..- I like that set up. At the hilt on the other side the blade is marked 440 Stainless Japan. Valor Miami products are said to be some of the better MK II clones I wonder if the Valor has a short tang like the Gerber Mark II?

May also pick up a Cold steel Wasp when available- and even a Gerber MK II new version-?? not sure about that though ...
