Curved Butterfly & Also: Are Customs Worth It?

Here's the picture of the curved butterfly knife I was talking about. It's not in perfect condition or anything, but I still really like it... Does anyone else have a similar balisong?

Curved-Butterfly2.jpg

I hope the picture worked... if not, I will try to re-post. Also, on the subject of custom balisongs... I was thinking, "are they worth it?" I know many of you out there are freaking out at this question, thinking "no brainer, of course they're worth it!" but, me... being poor and unable to afford customs, thought that it was more economical buying 3 BM-42s (depending on type of custom). But I guess it would be great getting a couple of customs if you're willing to dish out the cost. Just a thought -

Okay, I think I figured out why the picture doesn't work. I had an old friend put up my scan on his site. The url contains a swearword (yes, it says shyt [y is an i]). But you can still look at the picture if you manually type it in on your browser. Sorry for the inconvience and three posts. I'll have to get my own site.

The blade on that bali appears to be the same as the one on one of mine... same exact shape, same exact "stainless steel japan" stamp... except my doesnt have the bead blasted finish or what ever that is. Also, mine has the usual straight tapered solid handles. Nice HEAVY chromed handles. Im 75% sure that mine (bought used) was of frost cutlery's lower end line of bali's....so, if I'd have to guess, I'd think yours is another frost.....

Thanks for your guy's input. Say, Sgtp - do you have any pictures of your balisong? I haven't really seen any other ones like mine, and I'm kind of curious of what yours looks like. I guess Clay & Chuck haven't checked this thread - I'd really like to get their opinions.

I'm afraid that you're not going to be able to post that picture with that URL. Bladeforums.com incorporates an automatic editting feature that removes certain words. Occationally, it steps in where it shouldn't. That's the nature of automatic stuff. For example, you'd better not try to *****foot around anything here because the editor will remove that refererence to a cat. For a while, you couldn't assume anything about any cassette tapes either, but Spark seems to have fixed that one.

The automatic editor is an excellent example of the problem with "zero-tollerance" policies. Bladeforums.com has a "zero-tollerance" for the particular four-letter word that makes up part of your URL. Fortunately, when someone violates one of the "zero-tollerance" policies here at bladeforums, they don't expelled or sent to a reform forum, they just end up with a few extra stars in their post.

Why does bladeforums have this feature? Well, Mike and Spark want it to be a reasonably "family oriented" site and yet they are unable to read and edit every post personally. There is rarely a need for the words that this feature removes in civil discussions of knives, so why not remove them?

My car has a feature that locks the seatbelts under certain circumstances (this is how they protected passengers before airbags). It's a good feature and could be very important under the right conditions. But, if you park on a steep up-hill and then try to get out, sometimes you find the belt locked and have to tug on it a few times to unlock it.

Why would anyone want such a URL anyway?

Meanwhile, back on topic, are customs worth it? Well, it depends on why you're buying a balisong. If you're just looking for something to flip, a Jag will do you fine. A custom balisong is special.

I used to work for a place that provided a nice, hot subsidized lunch everyday. But, the menu was on a one-week rotation. The same lunch every monday, every tuesday, etc. It was fine food, and you got a good big lunch for $1. But, every now and then, a few of my office mates would stop by and say, "We just can't face that pressed-out turkey and reconstituted gravy today. Let's go out and get something different." And so we'd go out and get a "custom" lunch. It cost more, but it added some variety to our lives.

I personnaly like the URL.

I was going to register: http://www.***************.com

.......and use it for the site, but I figured I'd have too many problems getting registered on the search engines.

By the way, the Balisong is cool. How hard is it to manipulate with that curve??

I used to date a gal who spent part of her time investigating people like you.

Seriously, any threat to the president is investigated. Probably not the sort of attention you want to attract.

Which president are we talking about here?

I've always thought that registering that domain would get someone their 15 minutes of fame. (and 15 years of jailtime

Thanks for your comments. Chuck, do you have any input on my butterfly? As for your question on if it's hard to manipulate with the curve, Clay - It's actually the same to me, but of course, I'm no where as good as you are at manipulating balisongs. I thought I was good until I saw the videos on your site... then I cried myself to sleep for weeks....

Hey NateDogg, are you talking about the screwed up margins? Whats with that?

Anyways, I found some info on your knife. The importer was Royal Cutlery and it has a teflon coated stainless sabre blade. It also weighs 7 oz with solid diecast painted camo handles. I'm assuming this knife was created after PC created the balisong boom and Royal Cutlery jumped on the bandwagon and produced inexpensive import models. The original price of this knife was $25.00 but now, it would be obviously worth more.

Wow, thanks a lot for the info, David. I didn't expect for anyone to find that much information about my butterfly.

Another thing, I am actually now thinking of getting a BM-42as... I'm taking someone's suggestion of slowly saving up for one. So, any recommendations on where I can get one for a good price?

Sorry, I caused the scroll of death. Hopefully I redeemed myself by fixing it though.

Close, very close. She was actually with the FBI at the time I dated her, but things there got a bit political and the best resolution was for her to leave. A transfer opportunity to the Secret Service came up. But, that required her to move. At the same time, I lost my job and it was fairly clear that I'd be moving too. So we both agreed that it was obviously not meant to be. We're still friends and I talk to her periodically. She does not guard the president. Very few agents do. Mostly she investigates bank fraud.

But, every threat to the President must be investigated. That investigation typically begins and ends with a local agent just looking into the matter. Just about all are pranks and there's no need for the matter to go any further. She does these investigations occationally. It is a serious federal crime to threaten the President, even as a prank. While it's very unusual, when the situation warrents it, they do prosecute.

Oh, and Sniperboy, you'd better be careful. She's stationed in Pittsburg.
