I've been piecing this together over the last couple months and finally got it done this week.
First, a little backstory; my brother in-law is an avid gamer and truly dedicated to all things video-game related. He knows about my knife collection (i.e. obsession) and he is always curious to see what knife I'm carrying or what new knives I've picked-up. I know he has some cheap folders and a few novelty swords and daggers for display - but I thought it would be cool to piece together a decent quality knife for him, and customize it to reflect his personality and hobbies/interests.
Thus the Fallout "Grip-Boy" was conceived!
There really isn't much more to say; I nickel-plated the beads (which was an adventure in itself), then I blue'd and distressed them to have some of the bronze show through. I drilled a hole in the pocket clip to attach the lanyard (since the scales did not have a lanyard hole) and put it all together.
I also want to say that Benchmade's Customer Service was extremely helpful during this project. I had contacted them about getting the (user) 551BKD2 sharpened and refurbished under their LifeSharp warranty. After speaking with Tori in their CS Dept. - she walked me through how to complete the Service Request form, and send it to them to be serviced. Luckily, they are somewhat close to me, so the turnaround time was VERY quick (4 days). They were able to get the tough-as-nails D2 edge screaming sharp again, they cleaned everything, replaced all hardware: pivot, screws, bushings, omega springs, and even added a Black AXIS bar (per my request). They also sent a few extra pocket clips and asked that I send them pics and details once the "Grip-Boy" is completed. All in all, this further solidified my opinion of Benchmade as a top-notch company that truly stands behind their products and appreciates their clients.
Here are a few pictures I took yesterday. I am learning a new camera, so some of them are not as crisp/vivid as I'd hoped, but nonetheless I had fun setting up the "scene" for this
