Just bought my first Pm2 (from the forums), and will be looking to custom the scales/hardware/clip!

I’ve decided on titanium or aluminum scales because I don't mind a little extra heft and would appreciate the extra durabilty. For the clip I’ll go with a lynch!
Hoping for people to share (or show off) photos of their custom Pm2’s for inspiration!

Thanks for reading,

Joel

I prefer the MXG clips myself. Not into metal handles, but here's my PM2 with burlap micarta handles from RGT.

Aluminum is super-light. I have the fully-milled aluminum scaled BD1N PM2, the orange ones. It's the lightest PM2 there is so far at 3.25oz, I think it was. Lighter than the G10/liners. Really wanted the purple, but grew to love the orange. These are a BHQ exclusive and come in stock every so often. Also, have the Rex 45 fully milled copper PM2, and it is great, but it's about the opposite of the BD1N, as the heaviest PM2, at around 7.4oz.

I have some blue/purple anodized Ti scales for my S45VN PM2. From MetonBoss. Expensive, but very nice! Must keep it clean to have the color shine. Have a sheath for this one.

Missing a few from this pic, as this is an older one.

How do you find aluminum vs Ti?

Flytanium “Neptune” lotus scales, ti hardware from Blades We Love and a ti lynch clip.

I really like the lotus neptune from Flytanium. I cant find them in stock anywhere, nice grab!

I wonder if I could anodize the the bead blasted or stonewashed versions myself to a similar result. I imagine the ano was probably done before the stonewash on those though.

Thanks for sharing.

RG Custom Metal Works makes the best TI scales I have used, and I have used a few different brands. They are thinner than RGT and tapered. They do benefit from a Rockscale lanyard tube or backspacer, which give a bit of a cleaner look.

Ill check out his shop! Thanks. Hows the grip on those scales?
Micro Hex - Apocalyptic Bronze

Awesome thanks! I was wondering what apocalyptic bronze looked like.

How do you find aluminum vs Ti?
The textured aluminum is VERY light and robust, especially with Spyderco's "Cosmic" texturing, that keeps the grip not only very secure, but also prevents dings/scratches from being seen. This knife, the whole package, when it comes out, is a steal, as well. It's like $30 cheaper than a normal PM2 because no liners, BD1N steel (Can always replace the blade if desired) and lightweight aluminum.

The titanium is light. Not as light as Ti, but basically feels similar enough to a normal PM2, you know? I have a tendency to baby it, but have been wanting to use it more often, maximize the pleasure. If you get anodized Titanium and the color seems to fade, spray it with some Windex, it comes right back. It feels quite "solid". Installing was a pain, however, Metonboss will install it for you if you have trouble, just in case you end up going to them for your scales. I just wanted to say, that while expensive, they stand behind their product it seems.

I really like both.

Awesome, for some reason I assumed the alum would be to slippery. Thanks for the detailed response!

Thanks for the detailed shots, the RG looks quite alot slimmer than RGT. There must be a noticable weight difference between them. Thats a plus I never considered.
No problem. You are correct, there is a noticeable difference in hand. I see RGT has come out with new weight reduced TI scales for the PM3, not sure if they are available on the PM2. However IMO, the weight reduction is only part of it, the taper and slenderness really improve feel.

Grip is fine/good - similar to other TI scales. If you really want grip, micarta or terotuff is probably a better choice.

AWT makes some nice aftermarket aluminum scales. They are very light. Some would say too light, as aluminum can feel "hollow" in hand.

I have them on a beater/user PM3, and I like them. Totally different thing that the TI scales we are talking about, in my view.

Its hard to tell in his photos, but I wonder if RG’s diamond pattern has the saming countouring?

Good to know I was wondering about AWT scales, they have a coating offered which I worry about wearing off. But they are little less than half the price of ti so replacing in a few years wouldnt be the worst.

Can confirm that the diamond pattern has the same contouring. Here are some comparisons. Also, RG diamond v. RGT diamond (RG on PM2, RGT is on PM3).
