Up for sale is a vintage modified Corneta cane machete. The blade has been reprofiled into a large bowie/kukri-like hybrid with a massively broad blade. The handle is some aromatic reddish hardwood that smells similar to (but different than) cedar. Original factory labels are intact, and other than rust removal and a light rub with polishing compound, is original. Blade stamp is crystal clear.

Modifications performed are as follows:
~Blade cut to new profile
~Blade surface lightly polished and cleaned
~Spine squared
~Handle flushed to the tang
~Handle sanded to 600 grit and oiled
~Edge sharpened and convexed

For those not in the know, Corneta was the name of the company that later became Imacasa that later introduced the Condor line that's so popular today.

For reference, this is what the original looked like:

The point on this is inline with the center line of the handle, and will drill excellently in spite of the negative relief angle of the handle (which helps make it a mega chopper!)

I'll post more pictures when I get the chance.

I'll be taking more pics today after work. Will post as soon as possible. I'm very pleased with how the vintage look was effectively preserved with this piece whilst also spiffing it up considerably. After sitting in a backroom at Imacasa for goodness knows how long it's ready to work again!

And received. Response sent. ;)

I have more pics. Will upload them in a few.

I'm calling this still available at the moment, though Big W has dibs if we work out a deal for it.

As you can see, it's a very broad blade!

The handle on this is very comfortable and has enough space to allow for a two-handed swing if you have to power through some really heavy stuff!

I like it a lot but am curious as to what steel it is made from. did you get an major chips while cutting/sanding the blade?
You did an excellent job restoring and customizing that beast!
Gabriel.

Thanks! The steel is likely something similar to the 1075 high carbon steel that Imacasa/Condor uses now. I didn't experience any issues with chipping, nor would I expect it to with the sort of temper put on machete blades. It rings nicely when you flick the flat of the blade and it was very easy to produce a keen edge on it with a file, though it took it up through to the extra fine diamond hones.

The spine is also rounded at the point to serve as a better grip for draw-knifing and so it won't chew up a baton as badly. For what appears to be a slightly specialized design, this thing is actually great for general usage. The overall weight is pretty low thanks to the thin blade stock, but the mass-forward shape lets it chop hard!

I'm moving into a new apartment today and tomorrow and will be without internet access for a few days.

I need this to move--$55 plus shipping, I'll cover PayPal fees!

Actually, make that $60 dollars SHIPPED and PayPal fees on me for CONUS. $55 plus shipping for outside of the CONUS.

That's as low as this one will go, and more than fair for the amount of work that went into it and the age of the piece.

I'll try to get some more pictures up after I'm done moving into my new apartment. The thin stock makes for a very nimble piece, while the broad blade makes it hit like a ton of bricks!

The steel is 1075. about 1.5 MM thick if I remember correctly.

This is a great price on a modified vintage machete! The versatile design will make it a great user around the camp site or neatening up around the yard!

I think what really makes this one come alive is the forward offset of the blade. I didn't even really notice it before I had cut the thing to shape, but I guess the blade was like that before! Really gives it some excellent forward momentum. Wish I knew exactly what kind of wood the handle is...not only is it gorgeous, but it smells similar (but different than) a very aromatic cedar!
