Cutting down Chicago screws?

Just get a piece of scrap steel with a thickness that matches the height you want your screws to be. Drill a hole in it that fits the screw shank. Now just stick a screw in the hole, hold the head down with a gloved thumb and grind off the part sticking through on the other side. Custom length screws in seconds.

How do you use Chicago screws on .80 kydex? I looking at using them for some kydex sheaths. But if I have to hold two .080 sheets of kydex, I'll need to shorten both the screw and post right? Just want to confirm whether I need to alter Chicago screws to make them fit thinner material.

I'm using these:

Yes you can do that however it is time consuming, and frustrating, because you have to mess with the threads being messed up. I found that the best fix is putting small black Teflon washers on the back side of the screws. is hardly noticeable and saves a lot of time.

It just thought about using lock washers, that would work to and it would keep pressure on the screws so they can't back out. I may try that.

If you plan on doing several, just purchase shorter chicago screws. They come in many different sizes. If only doing one or two you can grind them like mentioned above.
