I found a knife made by Dan Harrison and etched by Aurum,it's like a
Bowie knife. it was made for Ford motorsports back in the 80's
and has Bob Glidden and Bill Elliott's race cars etched on the blade
and there gold. It's got 1 of 500 and racing on the cutting edge etched on the blade also. Can anyone tell me anything about it.

Yes i think i know the one you are reffering too but it is difficult to say without seeing a photo. If it is the one i think it there were less than a dozen produced regardless of the number on the blade. It was and Aurum Etchings program that never materialised.
Regards Tim

When I was a teenager I actually had the priveledge of working for Mr Harrison. He was then rated as one of the top 5 knife-smiths in the world. I worked for him and his family and had the priveledge to help melt the metal and assist pouring the red hot metals that he used.
Important to note:
No one worked on his knives but him. He alone forged, fashioned, and polished his knives. He gave complete attention and care to every knife he released. He was also a very good man that I respected along with his family and his son that was a good friend. Unfortunately I was in some rough years of my life at the time and they so good to me and then I was unreliable as a worker. We other workers worked on shipping, packaging, and other various jobs, but only he created the knives one by one. We did get to work with the different metals melting down and pouring for his poker chip collections that he styled after spanish dublunes and pieces like antique coins. Those were sold in places like Beverly Hills and exclusive type stores. Still today I cherish things I learned working for him. If you have a Harrison Collection knife, you have a treasure made one at a time.

Dan is indeed an artisan and gentleman. I own 3 of his knives bought in my early collecting days. His grinds are incredible. Attached is a Hondo bowie with a crazy clip and buffalo rib bone handle. I have a large Kris that matches it and don't know how the heck he got the grinds on that one sooooooo right. The third is an Eagle knife (hunter) with bronze carving that makes the thing look like it can fly.

Dan's back has been acting up for a few years now. I know he has struggled with it and I keep him and his wife, Carol, in my thoughts and prayers.

Hello Adam and welcome to the forum! Your dad's knives are wonderful and I appreciate the work your mom puts into the sheaths.

Besides the Hondo pictured I own 2 other of your dad's knives. One is a large Kris and no one can grind an edge on that shape of blade like Dan. The other is an Eagle hunter with really detailed work on the guard and endcap. Your dad has them now and is making updates for me if you'd like to see them in person.

Great to hear your mom is doing well and hope your dad's back improves. Please give them my sincere wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy & Healthy New Year!!!

Hello, I just got that very same knife given to me as a gift. It also says, 1 of 500 on the etched blade.
