Hey guys, I am going to purchase a synthetic/stainles crickett 22 mag in about a week. They are on sale for 160$.

Has anyone shot one of these? What kind of accuracy can I expect under 50 yards?

Not sure but I would be very leery of any real firearm that costs as much as a really good air rifle.

Plus if you want a .22 I would put another $40 $50 bux into what you are going to spend and find a Ruger 10/22.

10/22's aren't end-alls... Cricketts are reliably made rifles. 22Mag in and of itself isn't as inherantly accurate as most other rimfire rounds, so I wouldn't hold my breath expecting lead laser accuracy.

I have a Ruger 10/22 and under 50 yds it's deadly. Get a decent little scope for it, dial it in, and your set.

I used to own a 10/22, I'm not looking for another.

I chose the cricket because of its size and weight. It would make a great backpacking gun if it shoots decent out to 50 yards.

If you can find a Remington 510T in shootable condition, pick it up. I'm pretty sure it's no heavier or longer than a Crickett, was designed for target competition-mine will group solidly out to 150 yards with standard velocity CCI ammo. I paid 90 bucks for it. It breaks down with a single screw so it's easily packable. Older marlins are worth checking out as well.

Seems the mods are getting really strict about what we talk about in WSS, if this thread is not pertinent, I'm not sure what we should talk about.

Keep us posted on the Crickett. I passed up a chance on a 22mag Chipmunk several years ago and I have never seen another one. They also cataloged a .410 Chipmunk. My dealer said they never shipped any and he didn't know if they were even made.

I love my cricket, Its the funnest gun I own, Dont take that statement to lightly I own 5 belt feds incluing a m2hb.

I picked it up for $60 at a pawn shop, I was bored and wanted a new toy, best little sucker I ever bought.

I free floated my barrel, glass beded it, and filled the stock with lead.
Forget 50 yards, these guns are great at 100 yards.

I know!?!?! I had a boat question. I use it to go out in the wilderness and fish yet it got moved here?

Geez maybe they should think about moving the 50 different knife threads posted daily in there???

i like the idea of a backpack gun, but i gotta ask, why not get a pistol?

I purchased the synthetic/blue 22mag today. Gonna take it out to shoot this afternoon, I'll report back. The finish looks decent enough, the rifle is small, light and handy. The LOP is a bit short but definitely shootable. Can't wait!

No pistol because I can shoot a rifle much more accurately.

Shot about 30 maximags through the gun today. Didn't do any serious group shooting, but shot 9-10 shot off hand from about 40-50 yards, they all grouped in about a 1.5" circle. I'm sure it would be a lot better if I had a suitable rest. Managed to shoot a clover leaf with my 30-30.

The only gripe I have is the front sight, its a big blocky thing that really takes away from the effectiveness of the rifle. I may be sanding it down thinner if there are no other sight available. I was looking at a 22lr cricket in the store that had fiber optic open sights (no peep), I would like to find the front fiber optic and use it in conjunction with the adjustable rear peep.

More to come in the future...

Moral of the story however: accurate enough for bunnys, squirrels or pig brains ;)
