I have found a good deal on a used Dayton Belt(2x42)/Disc sander. It looks just like the Craftsman model, are they the same unit w/ different names?

I would have assumed they were, but then I noticed that the Dayton model retails for nearly $100 more. So...just made me curious.

Anyone here own any Dayton machines...that can comment on there quality?

Is this the one? http://m.grainger.com/mobile/product/DAYTON-Sander-6Z117

Dayton is Grainger's private label. They are typically over priced for a lot of their stuff. That being said this one is a 3/4hp vs. the Craftsman which is 1/3hp. I have the Craftsman and you can bog it down without much effort (especially with dull belts). These are definitely different designs to my eye. The belt guard and stand are completely different.

I went ahead and bought it. $75 for the sander, grey metal stand, and 19 new belts. They are all 320 grit, but I'm super happy!

And yes, its the model in the link shown in the previous post.

I will use it until I'm convinced that this is a hobby that I will stick with, then upgrade if I can.

Thanks for the help gentlemen!

For $75 you did get a screaming deal. You did well on this one my friend! Cheers.

Email me. I have a whole bunch of 2x42 belts that are going to just get ruined sitting around. I'm sure we could come to a nice agreement on them.
