Decent shooting glasses

So here's the story.. I'm a fairly new shooter, looking to purchase my first gun within the next few months.. I want to get all the gear I need first so I'm ready to get out to the range without having to wait for this and that.. What I need a little help with is glasses.. I would like something pretty decent without breaking the bank (around 30 or 40 bucks).. Something with interchangeable lenses (yellow, clear, and smoke) that will be comfortable with ear muffs.. Speaking of muffs, I'm probably getting the Howard Leight Impact Sports.. They seem to have pretty good reviews considering the price..

Also, I'm up in Canada so if they have to be shipped, that adds a bit to the overall cost..

Thanks for the help folks..

I just went to harbor freight and bought some construction glasses I liked. Also they have good hearing protection. The glasses were like 10$ the HP was maybe 30$ (not too sure on that one)

Ive had Uvex Genesis XC for a while and i really like them so far. They are around $10-15 online and you can probably expect to pay about as much or a little less for the lenses

I wear prescription lenses so can appreciate high dollar shooting glasses BUT only because of that.

If you have uncorrected vision the ONLY purpose of shooting glasses is to protect your eyes..if you want to look cool wear your Oakleys on the way to the range otherwise enjoy the protection that the big box building supply safety glasses can give you.

If at some future point you intend to shoot using some of the newer/better optical sights I'd avoid polarized glasses..some don't do well with them at all.

I do have corrected vision, but I've recently gotten contact lenses to avoid the issue of having to purchase specialized prescription shooting glasses.. The reason I'm staying away from the big box safety glasses primarily is that i want the option to have the interchangeable lenses since I do shoot both indoors and out.. It seems to be a more cost effective approach.. Also, proper shooting glasses seem to give a better sight picture (ie. you arent looking over the top of your frames if you drop your head down a bit).. In addition, while style isn't my primary concern, If I'm at an event outside and waiting for my turn to shoot, having a pair of shooting glasses that double as sunglasses would be added value..

I like all the options I've seen so far.. Keep em coming, it's a slow day at work today..

I have 2 pairs of Remington brand shooting glasses. The first pair are yellow hi-viz tinted with UV protection, the second pair have interchangable lenses. The first day or two I had them I changed the lenses a few times, but now I keep the grey ones installed. I also have a pair of clear safety glasses next to my work bench. 3 choices with out switching lenses is nice!!

a comment for those of you nearing the dreaded "B" as in bifocal age...I shoot pistol primarily, and have a pretty severe (3.75)asthigmatism... after a couple attempts to produce a pair of prescription shooting glasses, I had a pair made with my near prescription (single vision) in my dominant right eye, and moved the bifocal line up a couple of millimeters on the non dominant eye... takes about 1/2 hour to get the depth perception correct, but your brain makes the correction... tried several attempts to have the lenses made out of polycarbonate, but could not get the correct prescription due to the index of refraction, even tried inserts with safety glasses... shooting skeet, low house reverse order, a segment of clay bird took them off my face without injury

Sorry, wrong kind of shooting glasses.

I've got a cheap set made by Allen Company. Adult blade style w/ four lenses. Clear, yellow, red, and smoke. Should set you back less than $25 + shipping if you have to. Not the highest quality by any means but they serve their purpose. I'm going to start shooting outside more often so I might pick up something that offers UV protection. Those will probably be more expensive.

Check out the Wiley X models......I really enjoy mine and have about ten years on them.

+ 1 to wiley x I have a pair of wiley x revlvr s Ive worn everyday for three years now, from safety glasses in the shop, sunglasses while out and about, shooting glasses on the range, love them.

If you are going to a private range, check out their loaners. Most ranges supply safety glasses (and hearing protection) as part of your fee if you don't have your own.

Try out the different colours and styles to see what suits you best.

I detest those yellow tinted glasses in indoor ranges as I can barely see through them, but I am about one out of twenty shooters at my club who doesn't wear them.

Disclaimer: I wear prescription glasses with clear high impact lenses that cost near as much as my most expensive gun.

Revisions eye wear has some of the best customer service I have experienced and they have a great product. I purchased a large set of sawfly glasses for cheap at a gun show. I emailed revision just to see how the smaller size sawfly's were smaller. I had a rely within 24hrs with an offer to send me a smaller pair and a return label to send back whichever pair had the worse fit. Being in Canada there was an issue with getting me a return shipping label, so I was told to keep them as spares or give them to a friend. That's wicked customer service if you ask me! Btw that glasses in question were sawfly shooters kit's with smoke, clear and amber lenses.

My intended use for them was both as safety/sunglasses for backpacking as well as for shooting. The fit well under hats, toque's as well as shooting earmuffs.

What part of Canada are you located in BigDaddy485?

So far, liking the Revisions and the Randolph.. Just wish they were a little more in my price range.. Surprisingly, the girlfriend was the one who suggested I not be such a sissy and spend the extra cash.. Guess I cant get upset when she spends 200 bucks on a pair of shoes now..

@Flipincanadian - I'm in London Ontario, about 2 hours west of Toronto..

If you look around you can find the revisions shooters or military kits online for quite a bit cheaper. IIrc I saw a military kit on ebay for like ~$40. You can also purchase the basic kit with what ever color lens is desired and by the others as needed.

Oakley Half Jackets. Swappable lensee, great impact protection, and complete UVA/B resistance. Might be worth saving a little more cash.
