people get way too infatuated with the idea of 'the best steel', and think that the spec/elemental composition for the steel is the whole story. I prefer to design knives around what the maker is most familiar with, especially when it comes to heat treatment. Heat treatment is the essential consideration when it comes to the quality of a knife's most crucial aspect, and that's the ability to take and hold an edge.

CPK specializes in CPM3V, D2, AEB-L and Elmax, and has developed heat treatment protocols for each that optimizes their beneficial characteristics. If CPK specialized in the steels you mentioned, those would be on the list.
