I'm no expert, but it seems to me like this could be an effective tool in a bad situation.
Unfortunately a pistol isn’t an option for a lot of people.Knives are a cutting tool for me and I never view them as something for self-defense. That's what I carry a pistol for.
Michael Janich likes the wharncliffe for self-defense, and he seems to know a thing or two about it. And yes, every time this is brought up people have to chime in with a gun is better, or pepper spray, or running shoes. It's like clockwork.
Tell me, how many people do you personally know that have actually used a knife for self defense?
I do know one person who used a knife in self-defense, successfully I might add, but that is kind of irrelevant here. The OP's question was not "is a knife a good self-defense tool" or "is a gun better for self defense." It was whether a wharncliffe delica was good for self defense. Answers otherwise are not answering the question. These knife self defense threads are like clockwork too. Tell me, how many people do you personally know that have actually used a knife for self defense? If you have to pull a knife for self defense, just hope the other person doesn’t pull a gun. Just sayin’.

Whoever says wharncliffes don't stab well, don't know what they are talking about. Even my well used VG-10 wharnie with a slightly rounded tip from steeling it a lot and using it a lot, penetrates with ease. The spine of the blade ramps the edge into what's being penetrated. Plain and simple, and they slash better because more blade stays in the cut, rather than slide off. Do some testing. I'm no expert by any means, but I use this knife almost every day, and Mike Janich knows what he's talking about, for sure. The serrations for SD? Not so sure about that. I'd choose plain edge for that. And to be clear, I choose to not cut anyone, unless it is necessary.
