Delica to Dragonfly EDC

If you're asking why a person would carry a Dragonfly over a Delica, it's based on ease of carrying. Remove the clip, drop it in your pocket with your keys and nail clippers and you don't know the Dragonfly is there until you need to cut something. When you need to cut something, the Dragonfly performs above its size classification. It personifies the definition of the "little big knife". The Delica is kinda small and lightweight but it doesn't carry as easily as a Dragonfly In most cases, the Dragonfly can do most of the routine daily cutting chores I encounter. Even so, I prefer to carry both a small knife and a larger knife--it's just a habit I've had for too long to change. The larger knife varies but the small one is always either a Dragonfly or a Case Peanut.

I did when at work where I wear a suit or dress slacks. The Delica with clip was just a little too big. I added a dragonfly as shown, clip removed. But the Delica is back in my pocket (or clipped on) as soon as I get back in my car and 100% of the time otherwise. It's perfect for me.

I have both and use either one depending on how i feel on the day. They both work well and have more than handled any job given to them.

I did not go from a Delica to a Dragonfly, but I did go to a DF from a larger knife. I carry a Delica or a DF depending on what I want to carry that day. Excellent knives.

Why choose? I often stick a Dragonfly Saltin my coin pocket and a Manix or Delica in the larger pocket. I try and keep one or the other clean enough to be food-safe, since food prep is about half what I do with a knife. The H1 steel is my first choice if I won't be able to wash a blade right away.

Well, right now I have both in my right front pocket, the Dragonfly at the bottom, unclipped, and the Delica on a clip.
For quite a while I carried only the Dragonfly, because my wife gave it to me for my birthday, and it's the stainless model etched with the dragonfly and flowers on it. Really good looking. But for some food prep, like cutting melons, I prefer the larger blade of the Delica. When camping, I like the still larger blade of the Manix 2 LW.

The Dragonfly is a little knife that you might find difficult to open one handed (easily, without thinking about it) if that is important. It is a great little knife that will handle very many every day cutting needs.

Having said that - the Delica is also a small side knife but it carries lightly and discreetly, deploys easily with one hand and is sized to be a much more useful EDC - better grip, longer blade. A near perfect small knife IMHO.

Final choice, of course, depends on what your EDC needs might be.

Sadly my DF sits at home , my Delica is a more total EDC .
Still love the DF though and won't ever get rid of it .

Pretty much sums up my experience. I rarely grab the Dragonfly as I think it's just a bit too small. I grab it when I'm going to be around a bunch of people. It's small and purple, lol.

I put a small "noose" fob on my dragonfly which I can hold on to with my pinky when opening the knife.

Hard to open? Not at all. Even for an old guy like me with arthritis in the fingers, the Dragonfly is an easy one-hand opener.

You should really try one of the Dragonfly !! ;)
Such small and usefull, there is only one, and it's the Dragonfly !!

(No problem at all to open it or close it one hand !)

I use to have a DF paired with another Spyderco or another brand.

Why not carry both? My normal workday carry is a Dragonfly (usually an H1 serrated one) and either a Delica or a Stretch. I work in an office so I don't want anything clipped to my pocket. I have found that I can get away with wearing black Lee jeans to work. They have a larger watch pocket than most jeans... The watch pocket will hold a Delica or Stretch without showing. The Dragonfly rides just fine in my right front pocket. This way I always have a choice. The Dragonfly wont scare anybody.
