Alright fellas - I said I'd write this review a few weeks ago and never got around to it. I got out today with Myright Jr (now 9 months old) and had him the Deuter Kid Comfort I.

Here's the website:
http://www.deuterusa.com/products/productDetail.php?packID=kidcomfortI&sub=family&tert=family

This pack is super comfortable and adjustable in every way imaginable. There are straps to adjust how the kid sits in the pack and also straps that adust how the pack rides on your back.

The shoulder straps are very comfortable and the hip pads take a lot of the weight of the child without feeling like it. By far though, the sternum straps pulls it all together and make it feel like it's meant to be.

Apparently it'll hold up to a 48 pound child. Myright Jr. is now 22 pounds plus all the gear I had in there and this thing still felt good on my shoulders. I put in about 5 miles today and I could tell, at the end, that I would be better off with the pack riding a bit higher. I'll adjust that for next time out.

Here is all the stuff I had jammed in the pocker in the back of the pack. This pocket is not accessible while the pack is on. As you can see I jammed a fair amount of baby stuff in there and there was room to carry double that in there.

There is a side pocket near the child's head that the child can not reach and I can barely reach with the pack on either... Also - there is a leg in the back that folds out to allow the entire pack to stand up to allow you to get the kid in and out of the pack with ease. When you put it on your back you can reach back and collapse the "leg" so it doesn't stick out as much.

There are plenty of tie points around this to stow gear and toys. I use the top handle coupled with some biners to hang some toys for the boy to play with while we are walking. He actually likes to play with my hat strap :) That being said - the child can reach your head while in the pack.

Here are a bunch of pictures of adjustable straps.

Here's where the kid sits - very securely.

Thanks, CRR.

No need to go poppin' out any kids just to buy a backpack :)

There are a couple of guys on here that I promised a review to. I wish I could remember who wanted it so I can PM them. Maybe they'll stumble across this thread. It's a darn cool pack!

My right- I've got a Kelty Kidtrex ( I think) and it's almost identical to your pack. The only difference ( besides color) is that the pocket on the back of mine zips off and becomes a backpack of it's own and the leg ( that makes the pack stand up) folds in and out automatically via pressure on the shoulder straps.

I have to agree they are awesome if you have an appropriately sized child.

Nice Review

Nice one! I used a cheapo version for the better part of last year carrying my son around the parks and trails. It was the same general design just not as polished.

My son LOVED it and I enjoyed being able to get out without having my hands full. I could tell when he'd get excited because he'd kick me in the kidneys. He could also nap in it which he often did as we hiked. Lots of folks seemed to like the idea, but hesitated to try one for themselves. Their loss. It's a great setup.

LOL - it's funny you say that. He kicked me in the knife I had mounted on the shoulder strap a few times.

Other people on the trail get a real kick out of him riding along.

Nice review. I'm showing some stereotypes here but it is kind of hilarious seeing a kydex rigged knife to a child backpack and toys hanging off the 'biners in the next shot. Toy for the big boy and toys for the tot!

Gotta have plenty of toys!!!

I looked for the perfect place for the knife to be mounted and it just fit there :D
