Dewalt portaband problem

I hope I am overlooking something foolishly simple but I have a problem. Two days ago my portaband was working fine. I turned it on today and the worklight comes on but I have zero blade movement and the motor gives no indication that it is trying to operate. I removed the blade that was on it to make certain that nothing was bound up and even with no blade installed it will not operate.

I unplugged the tool and tried a different outlet. Same results.

I turned the tool on and off several times. Same results.

I engaged and disengaged the trigger control repeatedly. Same results.

Any suggestions?

The tool is wall mounted and has not gotten wet or been struck or dropped. It was unplugged when I was finished using it on Tuesday night.

I'm out of ideas.

Help?????

I am headed out the door to parent/teacher meetings but will check this as soon as I get home later.

Thanks,
SDS

Does your have a speed control knob on the right side top (as your facing the saw mounted, the knob it near the idler wheel axle location)......try moving it from all the way up to all the say down in speed settings and see if anything works.

I am assuming that you've checked circuit breakers and the actual plug to ensure the power is there.

If all else fails, heres a link to the Dewalt warranty info. http://www.dewalt.com/us/warranty_information/popup_warranty_information.asp

If it's 3 or less years old, your good to go. Even my little town has an authorized service center for Dewalt tools, so getting it fixed should be fairly easy.

I tried adjusting the speed control back and forth with no results. The worklight comes on so the unit is getting power. I was about 5 minutes too late to get ahold of anyone at Dewalt today.

I have had the saw less than a month so it should still be covered under warranty but dang this has me puzzled.

Thanks,
SDS

Does it make any noise like it is trying to turn... or completely silent?

(edit... Nevermind question already answered)

It actually sounds like it is your trigger or switch since it is not doing anything at all. If you do not feel comfortable pulling of the guard and checking with a power meter, then just wait and talk to Dewalt tomorrow.

I don't have a volt meter, and would probably burn it up anyway. I just came in from messing with it a bit more and I still get nothing. I can hear the trigger switch clicking on and off but it doesn't do anything. I had the switch taped "on" and would unplug it when I was finished with it. The switch was in the same position today that it was when it was working on Tuesday.

I'll call Dewalt tomorrow. I am pretty sure there is a repair/warranty center here in town.

Thanks for takikng the time to answer guys. I was sure hoping I was asking a dumb question that had an easy fix. This is going to slow me down a bit for now.

Thanks,
SDS

Just remember though just because you hear the switch clicking does not mean it is actually making contact. If one of the wires are loose on the switch it will not work. Good luck getting it fixed and let us know what the problem was.
