I received my DiamondBlade knives surge today in Rams Horn. To say I was excited is an understatement. I have been looking at these knives and in there "super" D2 steel for a while. I use a Scott Gossman hunter in D2 for field dressing my deer and my uncle and I make knives in D2 on the regular so hearing someone do something exciting in D2 is exciting and met with very much apprehension. I am going to say it right now that I have not USED this knife at all at this point. This is simply an unboxing and seeing the fit/finish and quality of the knife. Future reviews are very much going to come.

History: I participated in an event/contest that Diamonblades held to get a free hunt on them and you sent in why you and/or your other would qualify for such event. I did not win, however they did offer 50% off knives that you bought to a certain date after you submitted your entry. I will say I was late in collecting my discount as it was past the deadline but they honored that anyway. They were out of Ram Horn Handles and my order was late but they still honored the discount which was awesome. Dealing with there Customer Service was a joy and they were very professional and honored the agreement even though they did not have to.

Today I received the knife. It is a Surge model with Rams horn handles and mosaic pins. When I opened the box I was happy to see not just a box with a knife but a hat as well. The box was as to be expected as was the packaging, sufficient.

The knife and sheath together looked very nice and I was happy the sheath had some texture. I could see the insert slightly behind the leather which was expected.

I took the knife out and saw some immediate "flaws" as I would call them for a $500 knife.

So to put it bluntly for the most obvious issues is the lack of finish on the knife. For this price point everything should be finished, then there is the gap between the guard and the blade. That gap does not exist on the other side. For a $500 knife these things are just not ok. Plus the file grooves on the top of the knife are inconsistent and messy.

I am also a bit disapointed in the lack of polish on the grind, it seems rough and without being polished. Again $500 knife should have that done. Picture does not show it well.

Now, I posted pics of things that stood out to me. One thing I will say is the sheath is excellent and the fit is perfect. The knife clicks easily into the kydex and the leather is very nice. Another thing to note is its sharpness. Normally I dont ask a knife to do this but Ankersons tests prompted me to. This knife cuts toilet paper right out of the box. It is really sharp even to me.

I have not had a chance to actually use this knife. So I cannot judge that. I spent $250 on a normally $500 knife, so I wonder if it was rushed to get it out to me or if this is there normal offering.

I will add again the sheath is very nice, the grip in the hand is nice. The balance and feel of this knife is very good. The mosaic pins are done well and the rams horn is done well too me. I like the knife, I really do, however the very glaring flaws that exist on a knife of this price point make me cringe. I am hoping to do performance testing soon.

PS: For those that don't know me, I own and use very high end knives. I am being very nice about this review. I am giving it a very slim chance on steel quality. I am not judging steel yet just the F/F but I am not happy with the simple mistakes and very easy fixe's that could have occurred to make this knife better.

Thanks for the help! I have not posted pictures on BF for a long time!

All of the photo's below I will consolidate this post!

Trying imgur as google photo's, photobucket etc are not supported I guess. It takes a while for imgur to completely upload all the photo's so thank's everyone for there patience.

I really don't know much about the brand are they custom or production? Looks like assembly line due to the issues you pointed out. I'm not sure it's a $500 knife or if that's just msrp or Street price. At least it cuts tp.

If I were paying $500 I'd send it back for a refund. In your situation I'd be fine with that if indeed the street price wasn't lower.

Does anyone know who does the heat treatment? If it's quality you probably got a good deal.

I had heard good things about the brand. I rarely hear about this brand, maybe it was all BS. My local store has a few of these Diamond Edge knives but I haven't really inspected them. I'm sorry it came that way, it must be disapointing. Hopefully the actual steel itself is good.

Look on the bright side atleast it is Friction Forged.

I had no idea they were still in business. Nobody here even talks about them anymore.

Oh that's right, they do d2 at really high hrc on the edge. Cliff stamp had a video or thread on one, he didn't seem impressed with the heat treatment for the claims it was making for 65-68hrc d2. I'd love to see a rope test on it in comparison with some other knives.

What's with the giant edge bevel (is it even, looks like it might not be)? I also have to say their logo on the knife looks... cheap. I'm thinking a good portion of that "$500" is in their marketing.

I spoke with someone in there Customer Service department and they happily agreed I should return it. I still want to test the knife so I will be getting a second one hopefully without the flaws.

That edge bevel looks to me like they left the blade crazy thick at the edge.

Not impressed with them. The edge was over 0.03" on a small hunter I tried. Took forever to sharpen.

I drug my feet on mailing it out. The process for return is simple. When I first ordered they were on short supply of rams horn. I am not sure if thats still the case. I need to follow up with them.
