i saw it a few nights ago and it SUCKED - (kinda off topic BUT he did use spydercos LOL...)i'm all for violent movies, love 'em, not for kids i know - my fav is 'scarface' w/al pacino(say hello to my little friend....) and 'heat', the sopranos is the best show on TV IMHO, and boy its violent - great shows- and i liked silence of the lambs - but this hannibal movie was a sick bunch of crap - whoever wrote that1 is sick sick sick IMHO - i mean wow slicing the guys brain and cooking it and feeding it to him ......well i guess i've seen it all now -
 
Personally, I found it quite entertaining. I read a review of the movie that described it as "Chucky for grownups", and I guess that is fairly accurate. I thought it was pretty cool when he let that Italian cop have it with the Harpy. Good clean fun!

I loved the movie, albeit that it wasn't on the same lines as silence of the lambs. Yeah critics gave it a bad review. But, hell what do they know. How many movies can you say that you saw in the last 2 years that was more entertaining. It just shows that we are paying big bucks for low quality movies with bad acting. I have to say that at the end of the movie things kinda of fell apart. It would have been better if he had used a civie instead of the harpy when he iced the italian policeman.
 
Boring - and not even close to silence of the lambs...

Bad script, bad story and too much trying-too-hard to make it work - it just isn’t there.

Pity.
 
I interpreted it as a sign of things to come when Jonathan Demme, the very gifted director of Silence of the Lambs, and Jody Foster declined to sign on for the sequel.

Thanks to all and your comments above, I will save some money and not support this film by my not viewing it.
 
I'd save the money from buying a ticket and get the book. It was a pretty decent read, but the movie was a complete POS. I saw it opening day hoping for the best, talk about a letdown.
 
A quick anthology:

--1st book: Red Dragon, the best of the three, awsome read. turned into a movie called, "Manhunter" currently in development to be another movie w/anthony hopkins reprising the Hannibal role (though Hannibal has only a small part in the book)

--Silence of the Lambs...good stuff, great book, though not as good as red Dragon

--Hannibal...lousy book, horrible movie...

hannibal was a terrible movie in every sense of the word terrible. Manhunter was by far the best. just a fantastic movie, go rent it if you have not seen it.

and for another GREAT rent, go watch Fight Club. no knives, but one AWESOME movie, that goes very much against the crap hollywood usually dribbles out

I thought that was how the series with Hannibal went. I didn't think the book was all that bad though.

I wasn't impressed with Manhunter. I guess it might have been due to the fact I was pretty tired when I watched, but it put me right to sleep. I think Silence is the best of the bunch as far as movies go. Still have to read Red Dragon before I can compare the books.

Fight Club was a good flick as well, but you are wrong on one count. It does have at least one knife in it, and a Spydie Police at that
