Difference between Case Trappers

Hi guys.
Looking to get a traditional Case, full size Trapper.
I'm so confused with different kinds. For full size, I am seeing SS and CV some other models that look slightly different. Is this only the steel quality or are there other differences?

My question, how do I know I am getting the tried and true, original style, full size trapper?
I'm looking for a bone or horn handle version.

Thanks!

Not bone or horn but this:

Case 4 1/8" CV 3254 Trapper gives you an idea of what you're looking for.

As an alternative, this is a Case 3 1/2" CV 3207 mini-Trapper

The first is a Trapper - the second is a min-Trapper as I've shown in my pictures.

Check your Visitor Messages. I sent you a link.

Both are pretty much current models.
Without the time to get on and look at Cases website I'm thinking the different numbers pertain to the different handle styles.
Now not trying to be funny but It might be the photographs that cause them to look different -can't see the difference my self but if you are referring to the clip blades -one being slimmer and pointier than the other -I reckon thats a sort of optical illusion from the photos and if you put them side by side they would be the same.
cheers.:)

It looks like the Amberbone (NOT the Sawcutbone) you posted is the Mini Trapper at 3.5"

They do make an Amberbone full size. You want something with the tang stamp number to be X254 for the full size (X being a variable number 3 = delrin, 6 = bone... etc).

Thanks guys! That all makes sense.
I think the link for the amberbone one is a mini (just poorly listed on ebay) which is why I was confused.

I am leaning towards the sawcut bone anyway.

Can't wait to get one! I have never owned a case before.

These are the two I'm interested in. You can see in the stock photos that the blades look different even though they are both ss trappers. (the thumbnail groove is in a different spot and the main blade looks like it has a slightly different curve)

TAKE NOTE !!!!! Those two links don't show the actual knife you would be bidding on. They instead show generic Case photos.

careful there, the slim trapper had me fooled, it was a too slim and narrow blade for my liking. and it was all funky that clip. muskrat clip? i guess

Is one of the ones I linked to a slim trapper?
What's a muskrat clip?

Not really a muskrat.... It is a little different. I actually really like that clip. After having both, I'd probably rather have the mini unless I was cleaning game.

This is a perfect opportunity to stay away from eBay. Lol

I recommend buying from an authorized dealer. Or, you can roll the dice and probably end up disappointed.

The full size 2 blade Trapper is a big knife as ED showed you, The Slimline is a long slim single-blade pattern with a suitably slim Clip blade, sometimes called a Turkish or Californian Clip, as found in the Muskrat pattern too.

I strongly disagree with mrknife, The Slimline Trapper is a great pattern particularly for foods. But, as usual, we all have different perspectives:D:thumbup:

The Mini Trapper is a real misnomer. I've always thought it should be called Medium Trapper or Demi Trapper as it's a decent 3.5" closed, 2 blades, but you can get them with Wharncliffe instead of Spey - my ideal. But it does carry more quietly than the full size so it could be deemed more pocket-friendly.

Then there's the Tiny Trapper which really is toy-like....

Nevertheless, CASE make a decent Trapper whatever the name/name.

If i am not to late to help here is a hasty picture of my Mini Trapper with a Small Stockman for comparison.
