New here so hope I don't sound stupid, but what are the differences between the ESSE-3 and the ESSE-3 Mil?
Looking at these knives and just curious as to the difference.
I do plan to purchase one rather soon. Thanks in advance.

Hey welcome we all gotta start somewhere. The thickness and length is the same on both. But the mil has a sharpened glass breaker canvas micarta handles (I believe) and it comes with the Molle back, molle loks and the belt/boot clip. The standard is linen micarta, not a grippy, and the pommel isn't as pointy. Plus the sheath doesn't come with all the goodies.

If the HEST didn't exsist I would would get the 3mil.

Tim, I had the same question a while back.Get ether one you will
love it.

Thanks for the replies. Adaman04, thanks for the Faq's.
Now I just have to decide which one.

The ESEE3 has liners and the MIL version doesn't. I think the linen slabs are a little thicker on the MIL to compensate for the lack of spacers.

That's too bad about the lack of liners on the MIL. I'm getting a MIL (I like the canvas micarta better) soon and really like the look of the liners on the standard version.

I was also wondering how difficult it'd be to smooth out the pointed pommel via grinding or some other method. I assume it's been done before, so can anyone suggest a good method to do that?

I worried about the "sharp" pommel before I got mine, but it's not really the kind of sharp you need to worry about. See this thread:

It would probably take a couple of minutes to take the point off with a diamond hone... But you should probably keep it the way it is just in case you ever need it for its intended purpose.

Anyone know why there are no liners on the 3MIL? I understand they might be on other models more for aesthetic than function, just wondering. Stealth mode?
