would get a digital thermometer make so that I am able to heat treat O-1 and stainless? This would be used with my gas forge that is adjustable in the flame and temp.
thank for the info

The omegas shown will work, but you will have to make a different thermocouple for the forge. Those little probes wont last 10 seconds in a forge.
For about $50-60 you can make a pyrometer that will work well for a forge. Order one of those inexpensive PID controllers on ebay, and a 12 gauge type K thermocouple (also ebay, but I didn't see any on right now). You want a high temp thermocouple with the ceramic insulators if it will be in a forge. Just hook the thermocouple to the PID with about three feet of thermocouple wire, add power ( many will run off a 9V battery), and you have a pyrometer. The good thing about using this setup is that if you decide to make your forge a controlled forge, you already have the main part ready. Just add a solenoid and you can set the temp and keep it there. I will have a tutorial and plans ready in about a month for an improved forge controller.

There's a recent post (last 1-3 pages) that discusses the building of a HT oven. There's a few links to the thermocouple you would need.

where can I find a solenoid for my forge

Check out Ellis Custom Knifeworks. I know they build custom gas solenoid regulated salt pots and may have the solenoids to sale. They're pretty busy, but I'm sure they'd be willing to help you out if you can catch them. Otherwise search for "gas rated solenoid valve" on google.
