I could be wrong but it appears that the Recon XL Clip Point CTS-XHP is discontinued. It's not on coldsteel.com and I saw a thread where someone said it was discontinued.
Also noticed that the big river site has 'em for cheap right now. I'm not talking about the AUS8A version which is still available and even cheaper.
Anyone tempted?
Looks like the serrated version of the Recon XL Tanto is also discontinued but the plain edge is not.
 
In the CS 2016 catalog the only Recon 1 XL model ist the plain edge Tanto, it seems like the other XL options were discontinued. For the Talwar: I think it's a popular design...Maybe the CS Mod can give some information

Yeah, Recon 1 was announced to be discontinued in all Clip Point variations (SE and PE) in the XL size.
And yes, all Talwars have been discontinued, both L and XL and SE/PE. So sad, I wanted an OD green or Coyote Tan since a while ago, but haven't had any luck yet!

Thanks for the info. where do you obtain the info about discontinued models from? I don't know which models are discontinued until I hold the current catalog in my hands :-(

I'm surprised to hear that the Talwar is discontinued. Didn't they just roll out the gray and blue limited runs?
 
I'm glad I snagged one off evilbay a few days ago.

That is exacctly what bothers me. It seemed like their new great toy when released, and I thought it was a great seller...Yes, this special batch is their last release of the model, a "homage" if you like. Maybe the "colossus" is its evolution, but I don't see it as such.
Info usually comes from either the CS Facebook page or the Cold Steel forums, at their official website.

So sad for the Talwars, I'm still looking for one in CTS-XHP, especially the limited editions...
 
Talwar is such a great knife... But i prefer the Recon 1, fits my hand better. It's still a must have in the collection. Shoulda got the brown one too when it was like $70+

I tried the Talwar. XL and L. Ended up selling them. I've stuck with the Recon 1 and Hold out 2. Those are my favorites. I did just order a Recon XL. Decided against the clip point despite the nicer price. Went for the tanto because of the narrower blade. Think it will carry better.

Weird, roll out a special edition as it's discontinued. I got 2 and have a third ordered though(XL and Lg blue, XL full serrated on order) so that should old me...do kinda wish I'd grabbed one of the greys, though.

Kinda wish that mydelf, any of the OD green/Tan/Blue/Grey woukd be fine, but I couldn't get them while they were cheap and I am so annoyed!
About the serrated XL, I'm sure you'll love it

If you've never owned a serrated XL folder before, I think you'll begin to understand the meaning of "pocket chainsaw" in its real state

Actually heh, I've got the full set of XL Voyagers in both plain edge and full serrated, as well as a serrated Black Talon 2 and Hold Out 1(eventually I plan to get both these in plain edge also, but haven't gotten to that yet). I confess, I like to get the more...aggressive looking CS folders in both plain and serrated where possible. Usually I go for plain edge first, but occasionally price or availability will lead to me getting the serrated first(as in the case of the BT2 and Hold Out 1), though I went for a serrated Tiger Claw simply cause I have tons of plain edge karambits but until then no serrated ones.
 
I got the Recon 1 XL Tanto. It fits well in the front pocket of my Levi's 505. Because it's narrow when closed I can easily access my wallet. I did loosen the clip slightly and very lightly sand the scales with 400 grit paper. Just the lightest sanding takes the bite off the G-10. I'm sure carrying and using it would also smooth out the scales if you're more patient. The last thing I did was the choil mod.
I've owned all the XLs except for the Voyager and Vaquero and this one is my favorite because it carries the best.
I will add that Knifeworks is selling this knife for the same price as the regular (non XL) Recon 1 Tanto. Not sure if that's a mistake but it's the best deal I found.
