I didn't want to spend the $17 on a maxpedition battery case, so I decided to use my mind and resources to make one on the cheap.

First, buy some gum. Buy any flavor you want, but choose a color you like.

You can purchase some gum for under $1 each, and once you finish the gum, save the case. These are now your new battery cases.

As you can see, one gum container can hold 2AA, 4 CR123A, or 9 AAA. It's not completely waterproof, but water resistant, and definitely has more structure and strength than a plastic sandwich bag.

Strip the labels off and you can see how many you have left:

These can easily fit into the elastics loops inside packs and pouches and will keep your smaller batteries organized.

Hope this help.

I used to take my spares and wrap them in electrical tape in pairs, then tape them to the strap on my camera bag or neck strap. First few wraps are sticky side out and then twist to sticky side in. This keeps the cells from getting adhesive all over them. Since we all carry knives, it no problem to cut them free. Be sure to properly dispose of the spent cells or pack them out.

That's a good re-appropriation of waste canisters.

I carry 3 x AAA cells as backup for my headlamp when hiking/backpacking, and I store them side by side in the finger of a nitrile glove that I've tied off into a knot. It's a one-time use thing, but it's very lightweight and waterproof.

Nice use of some everyone else would toss in the trash! I've also used Crystal Light containers and the travel size q-tip containers for batteries.

Check your local film processing place and ask if they have any advantix film canisters, they hold 2 CR123's each. Also you can find waterproof match containers at walmart and other stores that hold 2 each.

the maxped volta case may be pricey but the battery inserts that go in the case are not...they can be had at many sources...
