Do I Really Want a Victorinox Ranger?

So . . . I have a small big river site gift card to help defray the cost of a new purchase. As have many, I have realized over time that the Vic Huntsman offers the best utility for the size of the package for my needed. On the other hand, I think I'd like to have a file and chisel, so a Ranger seems like the ticket. I'm just not sure I'll use it much. O, worrah-worrah-worrah!

The Ranger is my #1 "kitchen tool". It's a great little tool box for most minor chores.

I don't have a Ranger but it seems like a great SAK (all SAKs are great). For me once you get past the Huntsman (The GOAT) I would start to go the Leatherman route as anything more then 4 layers is better on a belt sheath. Also that backside chisel scares me a little, LOL. JMHO

I've used the chisel on my Champion a fair amount. You can't do a lot of work very quickly with it, but it's really handy when it's all you have with you.

It is done!

And . . . SCENE!

I don't think you'll regret it. The Ranger is probably my second most carried SAK after the Explorer plus.

Just for reference, here's the thickness of the Huntsman vs the Ranger.IMG_20211025_143504_copy_764x551.jpg

And the Huntsman, Explorer Plus and Ranger.

ETA- Looks like my Ranger was tipped a little higher than the Huntsman on the first pic. Sorry about that.

No problem . . . thanks for the reference!

Lets just say I might have similar proclivities regarding Switzerlands finest; see it, want it, get it 🤣

Also, now you call alliterate and be known as "The Rhino Ranger" Snazzy, yes ?

Let's take it all the way . . . Rhino Rhanger!

It's quite a spiffy tool and now my favorite pattern. As the other mentioned, the file does not add much thickness and I also like have the little chisel. I've used the Chisel on a Champion and SwissChamp in the past in a pinch and it's more useful than expected. Now I have one on me all the time.
