For example:if someone gives you a knife as a gift you have to give them a coin so the friendship won't be severed.Or if someone hands you a folder that's closed you have to hand it back the same way.Ect
I was wondering if any of you fine people practice any of theese or others.

Not me, but I'm from a younger generation. I've heard a lot of them (like the ones you mentioned), but never paid them much heed. I'm not very superstitious either (although I like the Stevie Wonder song).

We, my family, do so. A coin in return for a knife.

I gave knives as a gift twice without that and the friendships ended soon after (luckily the knives weren´t involved in that ending directly :D ).

I have heard, you shouldn´t cross knifes on the plate if so it leads to trouble. The guy telling me that was so nerveous about that, guess his nervs caused much more than the crossed knives. :D . I don´t give much about that thing, because it named simple butterknifes and i can´t imagine them to be other than friendly.

Nice sample, are there more?

I always do the "coin for knife" thing. I just think it's kinda nice.

Another knife superstition that I have is never to run my finger down the edge of the blade, as I might get cut.

I don't have any knife superstition, except for the fear of the surety of needing one if I don't have one with me.

Yeah, there's that one. And the one where if you lend it to someone, they'll ruin it.

I’m not superstitious but will always practice the tradition if you give a knife a coin should be given in token payment. It makes for a stronger friendship through understanding of tradition and acknowledgment of the fraternity of knives.

Coin for a blade, oh yea, I have one more, NEVER GIVE AN IDIOT A SHARP KNIFE, I think it's self explanatory.

Whomever I let handle one of my folders (mostly my jerk-wad friends) will immediately start abusing the knife - never fails. So my new superstition.. Its bad luck to lend out my any of my knives to a non knife-knut.

Found a few knife superstitions on a quick search, my only personal one is not to loan a knife because you won't get it back in the same condition, if at all.

CategorySuperstition

General Superstitions: The dropping of a knife foretells the visit of a friend in the near future.

General Superstitions: A knife placed under the bed during childbirth will ease the pain of labor.

General Superstitions: A knife as a gift from a lover means that the love will soon end.

General Superstitions: Dropping silverware causes company. Drop a spoon and the company will be female, drop a fork and the company will be male. Dropping a knife will break the spell.

Moving into a new home Superstitions: Never give a knife as a housewarming present, or your new neighbor will become an enemy.

Bad Luck superstitions: Bad Luck: To make a present of a knife or any other sharp instrument unless you receive something in exchange.

If you are married to anyone named "Bobbitt" you should hide your knives ... well nevermind!

I won't buy a knife if I feel scared of it while I am handling it, be it the shape, feel, etc. that gives me the negative thrill. The superstitions are that I will be more likeky to get hurt by it and me and the knife will not work smooth enough together.

I have a few that have been inherited from my grandfather and dad, plus some of the gauchos that I worked with. I don't know why I can't dismiss them, I have a very scientific approach to life, but somehow these things stuck.

-Never give knives as a gift. This is quite usual, you just need to get a coin in return.

-If you hand somebody a knife offering the blade instead of the handle, it shows disrespect (and can be taken as a serious offense by some).

-The knife you use to hunt (not to field dress game, but to kill boars) must never be touched by a woman.

-Folders have to be returned to their owner in the same way he have them to you.

Yeah- once I dropped a box of plastic spoons and the entire Swedish Bikini Team dropped from the sky. ;)

I have no knife superstitions, I wont go lending my knives to people and getting them damaged- but that is a reality-based belief and not a superstition- it can be verified easily by lending out your knife.

It's more of a "practice" than a superstition, but kinda like the old American Express ad - "Don't leave home without it" - mine is, "Don't go ANYWHERE without it". Well, I don't shower with it, but,,.. ;)

I really don't believe in luck or superstitions but whoever opens a folder has to close it or terrible things will happen to both the opener and the closer!!

The "A knife as a gift from a lover means that the love will soon end." one sounds about right... I'm going to go along with some of these superstitions for a while, i'm not going to take them too seriously but i find myself with some bad luck sometimes with knives.

Example 1: Gave one to what is now my ex.

Example 2: I seem to have very good luck with carrying my 110, but one fine summers day i decided to bring one of my other knives. Not carrying my Buck just didn't seem right. I lent it out a few times, and minutes later ended up breaking my back...

Hmm...

I'm not supersticious, but I always feel funny if I forget my EDC. I guess I'm afraid of irony and that the one time I don't have my EDC I'll really need it. Like I'll be in a car wreck and be trapped in my seat belt and burn to death because I forgot my knife. :)
