From some time I`m looking for a high quality bowie blade. Today I saw this one in one of our on line shops under the Down under knives brand. As far as I understood, this is an Australian brand , but the knife is probably made somewhere in Asia. The Outback model features
Overall length: 16”
Blade length 11”
Blade thickness: 6mm
Weight 800 g / 28.2 oz
Material: forged 440C dual heat treated (edge 58-59 RC / back 45-46 RC)
Solid brass guard and pommel, ebony & leather handle
Genuine leather sheath patterned to resemble crocodile skin with sharpening spike

Do you have any impressions about the quality and anything about the brand at all ?
Thank you in advance.

I saw this in one of the knife magazine's, it sounds like it's well made, but we'll never know for sure until someone buys it and gives us some feedback.

This short warranty is quite disturbing. But on the other side i like the shape very much, obviously it is a Croc Dundee movie inspired bowie.

Ok, it's large blade etc, but come on... 440C at 52HRC?

Thats for the throwing version of there Dundee knife. The actual copy of the Dundee knife RC's at between 58-59.

you would want a lower RC on a knife intended to throw.

That`s right.

You're right, I missed that part.
Anyway, with all due respect to Dundee, 440C knife for 250$, in a large bowie isn't the best bang for the buck today.

As a BRKT devoted fan I definitelly preffer some bowie of their production range, but the Outback is very interesting piece too.At least for me.

I'm not sure where they are made, or by who... but I'm 100% sure they have no connection australia at all.

If they bullshit about that, can you trust anything in their site?

I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole.

The Croc Dundee bowie was designed by John Bowring- gunsmith, movie armourer, puma knife warranty serviceman...

As far as I know the knife was never licenced like Jimmy Lile's Rambo and mass produced. I dont know who owns the rights, maybe the movie studio?

I'd have a look a Puma knives if I wanted something similar.

:)

Downunder knives are a fraud, the company was banned from Bladeforums. They are based in Finland, where they have a shaky reputation as a knife dealer, and the knives are made in China. "440C", sure.

There are so many great knives, and so many great places to buy them, why send your money to a bunch of scammers for knives of unknown quality with a high chance of them being crap?

In a word:

Avoid!

When looking for Finnish knives, better to examine the wonderful, wonderful Roselli products (actually made over there as well)!

I'm sure there are some excellent Finnish made knives, just not the Chinese made crap that we're talking about here.

BTW, do you have a link to these Roselli knives?

Oh I think I know who we are talking about here..

I won't go too far in politics, but I noticed a demonstrational video in youtube where some random person supposedly tests it but I spotted them as the company owners at an instant without even seeing their faces. Pretty lame marketing if you ask me.
