Do you use a lanyard on your Fiddies?

I thought there was a lanyard thread already here, but I can't seem to find one.

Do you guys use lanyards? If so, a pic would be cool.

I made a couple of beads yesterday. One is CA over stabilized flamed maple, the other is green resin/yellow jute burlap laminate. I cut the lace from a shoulder of leather.

Which do you think looks better?

The wood is gorgeous for handle scales, but on such a small bead, it's hard to see any of the figure.

Let's see yours. :)

I like the wood. It seems to match the pin color pretty well.

I don't typically use a lanyard, but here's a pic of one I put on a Bushfinger I no longer have. It was to keep with the pumpkin theme and highlight the orange pinstripe.

One guy on the forums makes some BAD ASS beads. I'll try to locate his username. he makes star wars, Breaking Bad, Battlestart Galactica, Dr. Who, all sorts of beads. They are quite epic if you are interested.

Yeah, I've seen those. You're right, the guy does really cool work. :)

Thurin, that's quite nice. Orange and black are my favorite colors.

I generally don't think lanyards are necessary. However, I have a camp knife coming and I'll be putting a lanyard on her.

Who's this bead guy you guys speak of?

Ooh I'd be interested to know, as all my handles are wood and I prefer to have the lanyard around my wrist when necessary.

Those beads are awesome strig, especially like the burlap as it looks kinda translucent.

For knives I carry in-pocket I like for them to have a lanyard to give me something easy to reach for when taking the knife out.

I sometimes use a lanyard when I'm carrying a blade, but generally it all depends on what I think I'd be using it for. For me it's certainly not a standard feature.

Strig,

I have put lanyards and different beads on my Fiddlebacks, but they just seem to kill the lines of the knife, take away from the knife, and offer little benefit in use, but.... your leather sure looks cool and it's thin!, will not hinder your grip if it gets in between your hand and the handle! Cool bead.... I like the micarta one! You step out of the box in style, VERY COOL!

I like using a deep pouched sheath and a lanyard helps in the retrieval. :)

And the knives I carry when deer hunting almost always have an orange lanyard to help it stand out. I know, I know, they will get bloody and nasty. That's why I replace them after use. Paracord is cheaper than replacing a knife. ;)

It all depends on the purpose of the knife. For my CC, camp, and camp 'muk, I had longer, reeves knot lanyards made out of 550 with a 550 Celtic button knot I would tie to cinch the lanyard while chopping. It was more of a safety feature I guess as I would just keep a few pre tied and slip knot them through the lanyard hole if needed. For EDC purposes they are nice if the knife low rides in a pocket or IWB, but I personally don't do this.

Either way +1 on commending your style and thinking outside the box. IMO I like the wood bead ;)

Haha thanks willic. :)

I agree about a lanyard muffing up the looks. I'm really only using them for sheath drawing ease. They aren't necessary.

Only huge drawback that I've seen so far is that one time the lanyard touched the skin on my side (ya know how your shirt can ride up a little when you sit down?) and I thought I had a bug on me. Screamed like a little girl. My own girls just rolled their collective eyes. Not uncommon in a house full of ladies. Oh well.

Oh yeah, and nice kit Schmitt! I especially dig the top sheath. Who made it?

I'm surprised that you guys like the wood bead. I like the other one more. May not go that well with the natural g10 though. Probably would look better with some shadetree goodness.

I detest lanyards on fixed blades (the get filled up with blood and guts when hunting/fishing and I haven't really felt any advantage of having them) and only very rarely have them on folders (mainly to make it easier to pull a clipped folder out of a pocket or adding some grip on small folders)

They can look good though ;)

Thanks. It is a JRE sheath that I dyed a darker brown and wet molded. I like it. :)

Yeah, it does look fitted. Very nice.

Mist, are those ti? They look like little rockets. Where'd ya get em if you don't mind? If they are ti, I'd anodize em, but I can't help but fiddle (natch!) with everything I have.

303 stainless I believe, I got them from my friend Rob Falkenhayn of Exotac incorporated, he is playing with the idea of offering them and wanted some feedback on them. There are actually three beads on each of those lanyards :)
