Watched Tombstone for the 100th time again this weekend, and noticed what looks like a gamblers vest bowie used by Doc Holliday in the beginning of the movie. I've become quite the fan of this design, and while I can't afford one, I have become quite enamored with them. In the movie, does anyone know what Doc carried? How about in real life?

I'm not 100% but I think the knife that Doc carries in the movie is just a generic dagger, made in Pakistan. A buddy of mine used to have one that looked just like the knife in the film. As far as the real knife I've read conflicting accounts. My guess is that no one really knows. Some accounts I've read said that the movie knife is similar in design to the real one, however I've read others that said he carried a slightly larger knife. Sorry, I know that doesn't really answer your question.

Doc Holliday is one of my favorite characters. I've read a couple of books about him, but don't recall ever hearing specifically what kind of knife he carried.

I doubt it has any basis in fact, but here is a screen grab from Tombstone of the knife he used to stab Ed Bailey in the card game near the start of the movie.

I found this on the web.
It's a Doc Holliday pistol and knife set by Cimarron Arms. I don't know if either piece is historically accurate, but they sure look cool.

I used to like Doc Holliday as well-until I found out that in actuality he was a vicious racist. I also liked the Earps until ,in the same article, I learned they were actuallly in the employ of big business interests in Tombstone, who were anxious to crush small ranchers in the area. They were far from being the good guys at the OK corral.
In any case the Cimarron revolver and dagger set is very cool.

Where did you find out those historical liberal facts at?

Wow, I just noticed that's a really old post, never mind.
